River Palace Hotel

Via Flaminia 33, 00196 Rome, Italy
5 reviews

I was really surprised when I walked in because it is so elegant but without being so pricey and luxurious like many other 4/5 star hotels in the city. The location is superb: you walk out the Flaminio metro stop and the hotel is just a short walk: what better way to see the city than having this hotel as ...

Caravaggio! Boy, do I love this guy's work. Chiaroscuro is one of my favorite techniques from painting, the contrast of light and dark. Dramatic! Visitors to the Chiesa di Santa Maria del Popolo get two (not one, but two) paintings by Caravaggio. Aside from that, it's a beautiful church, though not the most beautiful in Rome.

This children's museum is a fun place to bring your children, especially if they are on the younger side. There's lots to see and do here, and this is a fun, safe environment where you don't have to worry about Rome traffic or your children getting in someone's way. This museum has been designed for children to play and learn. ...

This is the kind of shop foodies dream about: An old establishment with specialty food items from around the world displayed from ceiling to floor and across every wall. Local chocolates and pasta, oriental teas, wine, meats and cheeses, etc. You can find it here. A friend of mine walked me in before disappearing into the cavern that is the ...

Quite possibly the best coffee in Rome. That's saying a lot but I ordered a decaf cappuccino (1,30 euro) and it was DELICIOUS. Normally I don't expect full bodied flavor from decaf but this was a different beast all together. There was complexity and fruitiness. It was very good. You order at the register, pay, get your receipt and bring ...

It's difficult to categorize Makasar, except to simply say it's an awesome tea house, book shop and aperitivo joint. Yes, all three. The aperitivo comes with wine or a well-made cocktail, and runs around 7 euros. Very affordable given the casual elegance of the place. The service is incredibly friendly and prompt. The tea room/bookstore/bar additionally provides free wireless Internet. ...

Piazza di Spagna is probably one of the most "pretty" of the piazze in Centro Storico. The fountain adds a nice touch to the impressive transition of Via dei Condotti opening up to the Spanish Steps. It's crowded, but for good reason.

This is the most famous park in Rome. It is in the very center, very close to Piazza del Popolo, and it is very large and cover a big area. People go here for jogging or just taking few steps. There are fountains, big trees, a theatre, a museum and also a zoo.

The view on top of the Castel at sunset is quite amazing. One of my fondest travel memories is enjoying the sun set over Rome on top of the Castel Sant'Angelo. The colors, the flock of birds returning home, the serenity, and the silent beauty. Exploring around the grounds of the Castel is fun too.

There is a lot to see in the Borghese Gallery but the main reason to reserve tickets to visit is to see the unbelievable Bernini sculptures, particularly, Apollo and Daphne, and Poseidon and Persephone. The exquisite skill demonstrated in those works is amazing. The thin leaves growing from Daphne's fingers and the pliant flesh on Persphone's thigh makes it almost ...

The Ponte Sant'Angelo is by far my favorite bridge in Rome. Ten sculptures of angels line this bridge, leading to the Castel Sant'Angelo. I loved strolling across, gazing at each one, reliving the Passion as all like to do from time to time... right? No? Okay.

The Capuchin Crypt is the creepiest thing I have ever visited. Running out of burial space, the monks started to use the bones of the deceased as decoration. Each alcove has a different theme—one might be skulls, while another ribs and shoulder blades. It's still a bit hard to believe those are all human remains.

Quote possibile one of the most romantic rivers I've ever seen. A track runs the length of the river, curving underneath Rome's numerous bridges. In the summer, stores and restaurants set up shop alongside the Tevere, creating a movie-like experience as couples dine and families play by the waterside. The way it shines, the way it lights up; there's really ...

Via dei Condotti is absolutely gorgeous and elegant, and based on Gogobot's starring system, I absolutely "loved it." That said, I probably wouldn't pay an extra visit here since I can't afford any of the shops and I already saw the Spanish Steps. Still, it's close to Stazione Spagna, so taking the Metro here is easy enough.
