The Riverwalk Vista, an old warehouse converted into a 17 room boutique hotel, lives up to its namesake - great big windows overlooking San Antonio's biggest tourist attraction - the Riverwalk. Friendly, professional staff, breakfast included and wine served promptly at five (in the afternoon :-)

This Riverwalk gem has a calm in the eye of the storm kind of feeling. Situated right by one of the busiest downtown intersections, right across from the Riverwalk and just a few blocks from the Alamo, this quiet little hideaway was the perfect respite from the madness that is city life. The buzzer outside is a great way to keep the crazies out and is answered by a sweet lady innkeeper donning a bluetooth. The rooms she shows me are nice an big, featuring wooden floors, oak bed frames and comfortable leather chairs pointed towards the Riverwalk. The halls are quiet and wide, excellent for unwinding in privacy at the end of the day. Overall, a sturdy, classy inn in the heart of downtown that offers you breakfast and a complimentary glass of wine at the end of the day. Clearly a win.

Not only is Riverwalk Vista in the heart of downtown, it's the best bed & breakfast in the city. From the passcode locked front doors to the wine served daily, I felt safe and never wanted to check-out.
The innkeeper was a southern belle who was all to happy to entertain my historic fix for downtown San Antonio knowledge (John Wayne made a movie about this area, in case you forgot).
Each room is uniquely planned but all share the hardwood floors and rustic appeal. I felt like a wealthy ranch-hand, if such a case were possible. Part class, part reserved.
You can take a short leg around the riverwalk attractions by day and have at the endless dining options by night, celebrating your stay where everyone wants to but doesn't like driving to. Next door is one of the city's best bars too.
