These guys have a terrific sense of humour. NYC is so driven by the latest and the chicest etc. etc. but this place makes a play of its deconstructed charm. Don't be put off by its setting or external appearance. The food is seriously good, but it's obviously not a foodie destination.Recommended for:Local Culture

I had a long layover at JFK and decided to hit up Roberta for some fresh pies before heading to Europe. I hopped on a taxi (big mistake) and 45 mins later I was dropped off at this industrial neighborhood staring at a building that looks like an abandon warehouse and bear no resemblance to a restaurant.
Inside that door is a complete different world. The decor was rustic and cozy. I was seated at the covered patio and the sunlight was very inviting. Ordered two pizzas off their simple menu and loved both. The crust was crisp yet chewy. The toppings were made of quality ingredients and the flavors were great.
Roberta's pizzas are worthy of the $50 taxi ride.

When it comes to pizza places in New York there are generally two varieties: The classics that have been around for like 75 years or so without really changing anything and the modern places that are out to create something new.
Roberta's is of the modern variety. Located right in the middle of Bushwick with a rustic interior and a garden patio out back they put together incredible pizzas with interesting flavor combinations. I'd recommend the barley legal, which manages to mix broccoli rabe, sausage and horseradish.

Located in a former garage in Bushwick, down in Brooklyn, this hip pizza place is hipsterville central. It's best known for its pizza for a very good reason. It's really tasty and all ingredients are home grown in the adjacent garden - Roberta's Garden. There are two generous indoor rooms for eating and an outside bar with extra seating space. The prices are too high for the location, but the food is definitely good. Make sure you have a reservation, otherwise the wait won't be a short one.

A very buzzy place to eat in Bushwick. We arrived at 6pm on a Saturday and finally sat down around 8pm. Great wood fired pizza but don't ignore the rest of the menu. Had amazing Brussels sprouts (!) and chicken confit. The area out back is good for waiting, grabbing a drink and nibbling on small plates.

If you find yourself in Bushwick or Williamsburg, Roberta’s is an excellent choice for dinner. The wait can be a bit much to get in on a busy night, but the wood fire pizza and tasty libations will soon make you forget you stood out on the street for an hour.

I was told about Roberta's Pizza by my boss. Oddly enough, he didn't even tell me about the food...all he said was that the place looked like a gas station from the outside and that there was this crazy chef there that I should go check it out. What I found was...a pizza joint. No really, it's a pizza joint. 2 for $5 buds, or pitchers of nicer stuff, pizza, calzones, and some other italian specialties, NASCAR on the TV, bench seating. They throw bbqs when it's nice out. Grow veggies on their roof, oh and they also have a radio station?
In the midst of all this is Chef Carlo Mirarchi...and if you happen to have his menu, go ahead and just try to tell me that this isn't the most exciting place to eat in all of NYC....and definitely one of the more exciting places to eat in the world right now.
