2011, Quentin Tarantino : For the Record (thanks to goldstar) first show of the night!!!
By far this was the best date I ever been on :) Just thinking about it puts a smile on my face. My date is a huge Tarantino fan so I suggested this event that I found on gold star. Not knowing what to expect we showed up an hour early as suggested. The place was almost full! The restaurant is super small and dark-lit...I'd call it intimate ;) They sat us in the front near the stage with another couple who were big Tarantino fans as well.
I was smiling the whole night. It was much more than what I thought it would be! The performers are talented and they did a great job with all the famous scenes from Tarantino's movie. Their show gave me new respect for his eclectic taste in music.
Food: I had the creamy mushroom ravioli. It was a good amount for dinner. I heard you could get a free dessert if you checked in. Unfortunately I didnt have a smartphone for a freebie.
- great actors/singers/musicians (i am a sucker for talented male singers)
- performed off stage and interacted with the audience
- they made my date dance in pulp fictions twist contest
- my favorite scene: stuck in the middle with you (reservoir dogs)
- food - pricey
- shared a table with a sweet fun couple
- small intimate restaurant with a tiny stage: felt like a hidden gem :)
- the LA traffic to get there
- paying for parking
- it was one of my best night because I was expecting a regular dinner show in a bigger restaurant. I didn't yelp it and it was their first show. Also love experiencing something small that not many people knows about. Oh and my date was awesome :)

A guaranteed entertaining evening every time! Been to "For the Record" Three times now with different people and everyone has had a blast.
Essentially this is a full on Musical in a Bar. The caliber of the talent is pretty high. Many performers have Broadway exp and it shows! I've personally seen the "John Hughes" "Baz Luhrman" and just recently the "Robert Zemeckis" Shows. Each one was unique and full of energy and life.
Each performance has high production values and you can tell the performers truly care about the gig. No one is phoning anything in. They are lively and very interactive. They literally sing and dance ALL AROUND YOU. There really is no bad seat in the house. Each night revolves around the various movies of the chosen director...and thus the soundtracks of each movie play a heavy part in the show.
Serious thought and heart has been put into every night. Def worth coming back for multiple viewings!
The food is also pretty good. Def try the Captain Crunch Onion Rings!
I've seen this place grown and eagerly anticipate new shows coming every season!
Seriously this is one of LA's best kept secrets but I don't expect it to be secret very long!

My idea of a good night out involves great food, awesome cocktails, and amazing entertainment. That's exactly what I got at Rockwell Table & Stage.
The front of the establishment is a restaurant and bar. You don't have to see a show to be there. There were a few patrons dining in the front area but it's nothing compared to the crowd that showed up for the performance in the stage area.
They have different performances all year round. The one I went to was music from the Coen Brothers. There were 8 actors that performed and sang live the entire show. The music were from popular movies like Oh Brother Where Are Thou? and Fargo, just to name a few. The actors were amazingly talented and their singing was so perfect that I forgot they were singing live. They used the whole space for the performance so we had actors coming right up to us several times.
I had one of their cocktails and it was delicious. The crab cake appetizer was also amazing. It came with avocado and this yummy red sauce. The crab cake itself was packed with big lumps of real crab meat. I ate before the show but I still finished the dish.
They have valet parking right in the alley behind the restaurant. It's not that expensive to valet so I would recommend it rather than walking. The dress code is pretty casual. I wouldn't show up in flip flops although you can but you really don't need to dress up for it.
They did they that they will be doing selections from the Great Gatsby and Tim Burton later on this year. I would definitely want to be back for that!

One of my most memorable dining experiences is here at Rockwell in Los Feliz. Essentially it’s a dinner and show. But in reality, it is so much more. Not only is the food delicious (try their kobe sliders or scallops), the talent is remarkable! The Rockwell team produces and presents great renditions of scores from a director’s collection of films through dance and song. The stage is the restaurant so expect to have the performers all around you!

I fell in love with the heart of Los Feliz/ Griffith Park area's businesses and Rockwell is one of them. Since then, I've been in love with this place and been back late nights to have drinks with friends in the beautiful outdoor Patio space with a big tree right in the middle of the Patio. Very romantic!
This is the first time since I've been back here since their indoor remodeled dinning area. They now put the stage right dead center of the restaurant. But the performance goes on all over and 360 degrees live theatrical concert experience in and around the small restaurant. I'm sure at more then one of the occasions, you get to see them perform right under your nose!
FOR THE RECORD: THE MARSHALLS
The casts performed rotating acts and singing songs of a few famous motion pictures' movies soundtracks like Pretty Woman and Must of Been Love, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Wind Beneath My Wings This Used to Be My Playground, and more! The skits and songs will make you laugh hysterically from A League of Their own, sadness with a little tear jerking performance of Beaches, and heart warming feeling from Pretty Woman and Runaway Bride. It was so entertaining!!
The show is about 2 hours with a 15 minutes intermission so you can finish your meal, order desserts, or restroom run.
FOOD: Now let me start with the best tasting food of the night, which are the sides.
The best part of the entire meal were the 2 sides we get to choose with our entrees.
ROASTED CORN MASH with lime & cayenne- 5 stars! Yum!
CAPTAIN CRUNCH ONION RINGS- 5 stars!!! Best onion rings I've ever tasted!
SWEET POTATO FRIES- 5 stars! best sweet potato fries ever!
TRUFFLE PARMESAN SHOE STRING FRIES- 5 stars! lots of yummy truffle Parmesan flavor!
Now back to the meal,
NEW ENGLAND CRAB CAKES with gazpacho sauce- 3 stars. The crab cakes were TOO mushy and soggy. It needed more density to make it a crab "cake" other wise, they should call it mashed crab cakes.
CHEF WAYNE'S CANDIED BEET SALAD-4 stars. The beet was like a little beet cake.
BROWN SUGAR PRIME RIB OF PORK with cranberry chipotle aioli.- 4 stars. The pork chop was tender a bit dry but the cranberry chipotle aioli sauce compliments it.
BRAISED BEEF SHORT RIBS- 3 .5stars. the meat is a little too dry, but plenty of meat.
For dessert we had the SKILLET-BAKED CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE vanilla bean ice cream with chocolate caramel sauce. A sweet tooth's heaven as the ice cream melts into the hot chocolate skillet chocolate chip cookie. .. But, It is VERY VERY SWEET!
Parking: Metered street parking or Valet parking at $6. We drove a few round around the blocks and found street parking :-)
Overall, it was an amazing night! I deinitely will be back for other shows. Tim Burton will be playing from Sept. 26-Nov.30. I am looking forward for it!!!
