Roma Termini Railway Station

57 reviews

Everyone warns you about pick pockets around the station and illegal taxis outside the station, but the station itself is very convenient to the centre of Rome and is well laid out and easy to negotiate. Notice the ancient Roman wall when you are there.

Well worth your time. Excellent museum, not as food as the Louvre but still excellent. You see so much art representing history and myths that surround you in visiting Rome. Take at east 1-2 hrs. Area can have gypsies and pick pockets. Use a money belt and don't loiter outside- get on your way to next place.

I would pass by this church every day on my way to school, and it always took my breath away. The facade is not as extravagant as some other churches in Rome, but just knowing that it is one of the oldest of its kind is impressive enough. The square is great to sit in and people watch, since it's ...

This may sound like sacrilege but I would recommend that you spend your time here in preference to joining the massive queues at St Peters in the Vatican City. St Johns (San Giovanni) is the oldest and ranks first among the four major basilicas of Rome itself, as opposed to the Vatican, and is the cathedral of the Church of ...

History buffs will drool over visiting Saint Clement's Basilica, a church on top of a church, on top of a church. Accidental excavations revealed a 4th century A.D. church underneath the medieval basilica, which just happens to be directly on top of a 1st century A.D. Mithraic chapel.

Go Here! Fabulous Michelangelo statue of Moses with no protective plexiglass. Put small coins in box to turn on lights to see it best. Quiet and uncrowded place to pay homage to the sculpture.

People watch on the iconic stone steps or stroll through the piazza and splash your face with water from the fountain, or both. Piazza di Spagna is one of Rome's main sights, but it's perfect for budget travelers as a place that can entertain you for an hour, for free. Catch the infiorata in spring, when the steps are covered ...

What an interesting attraction. Visitors ascend the Scala Santa on their knees, praying as they go up. You can also go up and down via normal human means via the staircases to the left and right of the main scala.

Step through the unassuming entrance to this amazing church located in a building that used to house Roman baths. You will be greeted by a grand dome topped with an incredible stained glass image of the solar system. Inside, you can admire the old meridian which, until the mid 1800s, was used to set the clocks in Rome.

Great place to watch the sunset in Rome. The drawback is that it can get a bit crowded with all the tourists and people hawking their wares. On four corners of a traffic-choked intersection sit these four fountains, representing two rivers (the Tiber and Arno) and two goddesses (Diana and Juno) preside peacefully, adding a Renaissance flair to what would otherwise be a routine commute. We think this typifies the 'local' experience in Rome; daily mundane activities against a backdrop of truly incredible art.

In Piazza degli Zingari, this wine bar/cafe/art gallery is gorgeously run by the Calabrian Margherita, an independent woman business owner who works her tail off and has a great wine list. The crowd is a nice mix of expats and Italians. Rotating art exhibitions add to the fun.

This incredible column is inscribed with a spiralling bas-relief which recounts the story of the Emperor Trajan's Dacian wars. Funnily, a statue of St. Peter was plunked atop it in the 16th Century. I stayed here in April 2013 and adored it. Apparently it's the birthplace of jUlius Ceasar but if you're more interested in modern Italy, it has beautiful hidden restaurants and shops too. It's not as touristy as closer to piazza navona but it's still easily accessible to all some amazing sights in Rome, about 5 minutes walk to the collosseum ...
