Such a cool station. You can get anywhere from here. There are a lot of shops, and tourist information is available for travelers. It can be intimidating, going from one section to the next, but everything is clearly marked so you never feel truly lost (maybe just culturally). Metro ticket counters require cash, with only up to six euros change available. I purchased a monthly pass from a tabaccheria for 30 euros (available the first few days of each month). If you're interested in that, bring extra cash as they may not accept credit cards.
If, like me, you find yourself adventuring way too late in the night and miss the last train home, you can take an owl bus outside of the main entrance to Termini. Stops are listed on signs above the stops, though they are a bit hard to read. Bear in mind that the buses don't always stop, so if you're counting stops... you'll end up lost (again) like me.
And now the negatives: Termini is crowded. If you're headed in a touristy destination, expect a flood of people to enter at this Metro stop. If you're getting off at the stop directly after Termini, be sure to stay closer to the door or start heading to the doors once your stop is announced. It all gets a bit crazy.

the main termini in Rome is likely to be a visitor's first experience of Rome if traveling by train or by plane if by the airport train. The terminal itself excludes "oldness" as in there probably hasn't been much upgrades done....ever, but that's ok, because we come here to experience culture, ruins, and things "classic".

Termini is one of Europe's great railway station, though not as aesthetically pleasing as Milano Centrale or Grand Central Station in New York. If you're a backpacker, it's also the best place to find cheap, private lodgings as many apartment owners come here looking for single travelers to rent rooms for a night or two.

I live in a small town with rotten public transportation, so I really get a kick out of Termini, with all the people heading this way and that dragging suitcases. So many stories! Termini has plenty of cafes and shops, and over the years is becoming more of a transit mall. Tip: Train to the airport (Leonardo Express) and trains to Pisa are WAY in the back, so allow time to walk the 4 or 5 blocks to the track.

The station is located in piazza dei Cinquecento, in the heart of the city. The splendid spaces available at Roma Termini are often chosen as locations for concerts, meetings, exhibitions, and for literary and social events. On 23rd December 2006, in an official ceremony, Termini Station was dedicated to Pope John Paul II.

Easy, straightforward, and the trains are surprisingly on time (in my experience, at least). I've bought tickets here for both a trip weeks in advance and a trip the day of departure, and the processes were equally hassle-free. If you're taking the bus into the city after you leave Termini, make sure you have a bus ticket - the police are especially strict at checking with buses that leave this station.

From the small Ciampino airport, you'll likely be taking the rail and arrive at the Rome Terminal Railway Station. It offers coffee and food. Plus, the ride from the station to the airport is no more than 30 minutes.

Leave from chaotic Termini for most all destinations in Italy, or get the train to the airport. Backpackers and businesspeople hobnob in the thronging crowds.
