the main termini in Rome is likely to be a visitor's first experience of Rome if traveling by train or by plane if by the airport train. The terminal itself excludes "oldness" as in there probably hasn't been much upgrades done....ever, but that's ok, because we come here to experience culture, ruins, and things "classic".

This is a busy, chaotic and noisy station in the middle of Rome. It is however not that bad to figure out where and when to go to get to your train. It is also has a small mall that even has a grocery store for stocking up on things at a reasonable price. We like walking around watching the tourists especially the ones with a ton of luggage. Remember that the train to the airport loads way down the track and is quite a walk, although underground is a walkway system. This place is not as seedy as some people make it out to be. We stayed a hotel just around the corner and found the neighborhood good even at night.

What a busy place! I stayed in a B & B nearby and this was just fantastic to have nearby. I traveled to Naples from here and it was so easy to purchase tickets from the station at the automated machines and easy to find the platform you need. Also a fantastic gelataria in the station itself.

Termini is one of Europe's great railway station, though not as aesthetically pleasing as Milano Centrale or Grand Central Station in New York. If you're a backpacker, it's also the best place to find cheap, private lodgings as many apartment owners come here looking for single travelers to rent rooms for a night or two.Recommended for:Backpackers

Easy to get lost. Haven for pickpockets. We ended up almost missing our train because the signage was very confusing and directed us well out of our way. The metro station was easy to navigate though and was our core transportation option for most of our time in Rome. Definitely get the Roma Pass as it includes transportation, free access to some sights, and discounts to other sights. You can buy the pass from the official government store at the Rome airport (FCO) or search for it online.

Termini gets a bad rap - it's dirty, it's overcrowded to the point of suffocating; to that I can only say: what did you expect of the main transportation hub of one of the most visited capitals in the world? Sure, it's not as spiffy as Milano Centrale, it could use a coat of paint or two, the hordes of peddlers both inside and outside could be a little unsettling for the mom and pop tourists...so what? The trains run on time (for the vast majority of the time), the bus/tram terminals outside the station are clearly marked, it's the intersection of the metro lines, it is centrally located, it is safe...it ticks all the important boxes for me.
