If you have a car and are exploring the area surrounding Rome, the town of Nemi (overlooking a lake with the same name) should be on your list. The town is famous for its tiny wild strawberries – they are delicious. Get a pastry topped with these strawberries and a cup of coffee, sit outside and enjoy beautiful views – ...

    Terni

    Italy
    9 reviews

Terni is a strange, but useful, town in Lazio whose industrial history made it a target for bombings during World War II. Therefore it's beautiful old town is surrounded by newer, cheaper housing projects and box stores lining large, ugly streets. The town has its charms - particularly as you move towards its center - but its main draw is ...

    Cerveteri

In Etruscan Places, D.H. Lawrence opens his first section "Cerveteri" writing: "The Etruscans, as everyone knows, were the people who occupied the middle of Italy in early Roman days, and whom the Romans, in their usual neighbourly fashion, wiped out entirely in order to make room for Rome with a very big R." What I like about Cerveteri is that ...

    Nettuno

    Italy

Cute little coastal town good for strolling and bar hopping. The night scene is on the younger side, though you'll find all ages depending where you go. It's quiet in the winter and crowded in the summer. Officina del Pesce is a pretty good restaurant, but there isn't a big foodie scene otherwise.

    Sermoneta

Such a cute town. Just about every alleyway is picturesque and leads to great views; it could be a little cousin of Montepulciano. Much of it (including the castle) is closed outside of the summer months, but you can still walk around during the other seasons and pass the time pleasantly. It's a mountaintop village, so it's got great views ...
