    Trattoria Monti

Delicious food that is mostly mostly marchegiano (from the Le Marche region). In lots of guidebooks, but still a favorite of locals. A reservation here is a must due to the small size of the restaurant.

    Trattoria Cacio e Pepe

    8 reviews

They have THE most delicious pasta cabonara in the world. Seriously, I ate there four times a week when I was in Rome. It's the best. And the restaurants namesake dish Cacio e Pepe is also delicious, btw.

    Pizzeria la Montecarlo

    6 reviews

The thing is that you go to montecarlo when the queue to Baffetto-2 across the street is out of any moral perception:)and you go to Baffetto-2 because the original Baffetto is so famous among the tourists that hardly any roman can support that waiting list...But the point is that all 3 spots are owned by the same italian family, so ...

    Filetti di Baccala

    6 reviews

The small restaurant specializes in cod (baccalà), a specialty of the region. Head to the back and order a filet of fried cod for 4,50 euro to take away (it is 5 euro if you want a table). Very tasty. The frying method they use gives the fish a light taste. Highly recommend if you are in the area.

    La Taverna del Ghetto

    6 reviews

Sometimes it takes an Israeli to do Rome proud. Just around the corner from Piazza XVI Ottobre, where thousands of Roman Jews were once rounded up and taken to concentration camps, sits the Taverna del Ghetto, run by Raffaele, a man from Israel, and his Roman wife. As he explained to me, Roman Jewish food had all but died out ...

    Obikà Mozzarella Bar

A very stylish place in the center of Rome, very close to the Piazza Navona. Try different types of Mozarelle (for example, a smoked one) and have a nice glass of wine. I can totally recommend a visit.

    Osteria dell'Angelo

I thought all the Roman food places were in Testaccio, until I accidentally ran across this place while staying at a pensione across the street. The owner, Angelo, puts on a good rap about how healthy typical Roman food is (tripe is low in fat, and other interesting little known facts) but the food is really truly delicious. There's a ...

    Flavio al Velavevodetto

A place where the Romans eat. Very good local food. The staff do not speak much English and don't really cater to tourists.

    Dar Moschino

    4 reviews

Dar Moschino is an old school Roman trattoria (which means its a little dirty, service is definitely lacking, but that's part of the charm). The menu is based on the day of the week as per Roman tradition. I was lucky enough to be there on Nervetti, Gnocchi, & Oxtail night!

    L'Enoteca Cul de Sac

    4 reviews

I like this winery, where you can have lunch or dinner also outside, in a very nice square of Rome. There are a lOt of types of wines and food is good, typical of roman cuisine. This place is the perfect starting place for shopping in Via del Governo Vecchio.

Just a few small blocks from Campo de’ Fiori, this is what I would regard as a classic trattoria--crowded wooden tables, rustic looking walls and ceiling, bottles of wine everywhere and great smells coming from the kitchen. Their pasta was recommended but the first time we ate here, we did not have pasta. So, we just had to return for ...

    La Trattoria degli Amici

    Gelateria Petrini

    3 reviews

The most spectacular gelateria in Rome, and no one knows about it but the locals. The menta romana is creamy and delicately minty without while the passito di pantelleria is a wondrous distillation of the sicilian liqueur. Honestly, all the flavors are just uh-mazing. Close to the Ponte Lungo stop on Metro A, it's on Via Appia Nuova--get out of ...

If you're out in the artsy Pigneto neighborhood, Necci is the place to be. A historic home with loads of stories connected to it, Necci's outdoor terrace and garden is striking at night, perfect for romantic dinners as well as lively chats with friends and family. The food is neo-Italian, classic Italian dishes with a twist or deconstructed. A favorite ...
