My friend said this place would be better than Giovanni's, but the plate she ordered for us couldn't compare. I think she had meant to order her old favorite, but the menu had changed so drastically since she'd been back, that instead of finding the spicy shrimp, she could only see the sweet & spicy. It was decent, but it would have been better if it was just spicy. The sweetness of it was just a little too much. I'm willing to give it another try, but I definitely will only order the garlic butter next time!Recommended for:

Oahu's north shore is famous for its roadside shrimp trucks. Romy's is known to be one of the best. We had the garlic shrimp that was super garlicky and good, and fried shrimp (wrapped like egg rolls). You sit at outdoor picnic tables.Recommended for:

Kahuku shrimp is famous, and there are several shrimp trucks in area, but I think Romy's is the best. Ample seating outside protects you from the sun, but at times it can be breezy. Thankfully there's a sink and soap nearby to wash up before and after your shrimp experience because you'll need to get down and dirty eating your meal; there's no elegant way of doing it! There seems to always be a line and the wait can be 30-40 minutes, but worth it. I believe they offer a chance to go to one of the ponds out back to 'fish' for your own shrimp, but I confess I've been too hungry to 'work' for my food!

We'll never look at prawns in the same way. Expect a wait because it's not fast food. While you wait, why not run down the road to Giovanni's for a shrimp plate? :) That's what we did! You can call in ahead of time, but good luck getting an answer!
The prawns are juicy, large, crunchy, and delicious! I normally don't deal with the heads of shrimp very well, but you'll not want to waste the juices inside these prawn heads. You'll also want to lick your fingers afterward, but don't worry, there's a sink with soap you can use.
If you frequent the shack [it's so not a truck], you can get one of those frequent buyer cards. Buy ten, get one free!

This is the place I take friends and family who are visiting oahu. Located just out of Kahuku town on the North Shore side about a mile. Try the garlic shrimp plate or if the have try the prawns with the head on. Long waits sometimes but well worth it.

Romy's Kahuku Prawns & Shrimp Inc, or simply known as Romy's, follows in the tradition of the North Shore shrimp truck by offering up some absolutely delicious plates piled high with just about the most fresh tasting seafood on the islands. As the name suggests, they also serve prawns here, and, unlike the similarly called creatures from the movie District 9 (who judging by their cat-food based diet and otherworldly origins, probably don't taste too good) the prawns at Romy's are just as fresh and delicious as the shrimp. If you are cruising around towards the end of the North Shore, and you feel a rumble in your belly, satiate it with the quality options served at Romy's Kahuku Prawns & Shrimp Inc.

There are so many shrimp trucks/restaurants on the North Shore driving down the east side through Kahuku. I think you can't go wrong with any of them.......after all they raise the shrimp right there!! I ate at Romy's and it was delicious. I think at any shrimp truck you'll pay between $13-17 a plate. But it's worth it!
