I left Roscoe puzzled and disappointed. I really imagined ‘Roscoe’ to be the institute of chicken and waffles in So-Cal. Was it just me… or was the food ordinary?
Yup. ‘Ordinary’ is what I think of the food.
The Fried Chicken - crunchy batter, well seasoned meat. Leg and thigh pieces tasted pretty good except for a few small spots that were a bit dry. It was decent but not fantastic.
The Waffles - soft, spongy and thin. They tasted more like pancakes than waffles. The only good thing about them is that they could be used to soak up sauce and gravy. I still like my waffles crispy.
The sides - I don’t think I have had biscuits and cornbread this dry since school days. I think my good old school cafeteria made much better ones. The rice were alright and the gravy tasted quite decent. Mac n cheese was not very appealing at all. The cheese was already semi solidified when served and no longer gooey.
Giblets & Livers - These are good. I like them a lot more than the fried chicken and everything else. If they are your things than by all means give this restaurant a try. I might even talk myself into grabbing take-out here some other times.
I really missed Southern food and desperately want to like Roscoe. Sadly, the quality of the food can’t justify the wait. There are many other places that serve better chicken & waffles.

Roscoe's House of Chicken & Waffles is a very popular place in the LA area. Obviously known for their chicken and waffles but their Mac & Cheese is also very good. Roscoe's offers pan fried chicken that is flavorful and goes well with their cinnamon based waffles. This place (Long Beach) gets packed on weekends but we got lucky and got seated quickly. The secret: stop in just after the breakfast rush but just before the lunch rush (between 10:30 & 11:30) and you'll avoid the wait line. You must order the chicken and waffles and you should get a side of Mac & Cheese when you visit.

5 thigh carry out specials $6. Love that chicken at Roscoe's. I always order the half chicken and you gotta get the waffles. I get the gravy on the side for dipping because when you have them gravy it all up it gets soggy. So good, I can feel the cholesterol surging through my veins! The sides of macaroni and collard greens are a must! Love you roscoes!

Eh. I've had better chicken at other places. I've had better waffles at other places. But there are very few places where they serve it together. I would go here if friends really wanted to come here, but it wouldn't be at the top of my list. There is always a line, but it's nice there is a large waiting area with a bar.

Get ready for food coma after coming here! Like totally set aside an hour or two after eating here to just sleep it off. The chicken is moist and tender and the waffles crispy and sweet. Put those together and drown it in gravy and you have the ultimate plate of chicken and waffles.
Tip: go early on the weekends to avoid the looooong lines!

Who doesn't love chicken with waffles? Supposedly the secret to their fantastic waffles is cinnamon. Whatever it is, it's delicious. The fried chicken is good, but I don't think the most amazing ever. Syrup is a thumbs up and I love it on the grits.

This is a great place - who would have known deep fried chicken and waffles......the next time you go there try downing the entire container of syrup....yeah I love syrup and so should you.
But don't fool yourself - there's a lot more to this place then just the chicken and waffles. There is so much more to this place - the other kinds of chicken combinations, different ways of preparations. I like the different styles of juice where it looks like a sunrise or a sunset or something. Wish I could remember the crazy names for them though.
I like this branch more so than the others - the Pico one scares me, the downtown one is small as hell so think again if you have a group. This one is close to downtown Long Beach and is great right after the clubs and bars - helps sober up. You know what I mean! BTW - it's right next to a jazz bar - so technically you could just drink there then get some food without the risk of getting pulled over...just a thought.
