This was a gorgeous property with a lot of interesting history. The rum, the nearby golf course (white witch) and the resort were all impressive.

One of the monuments to British Colonial rule is this mighty mansion.
The British built some grand halls in Jamaica out of the enormous profits from exportation of sugar, rum and indigo in that colony. This place is really a museum to that form of 18th and 19th Century aristocratic decadance. Dimensions of everthing are smaller than we are used to...300 yaers ago, people were smaller! This place has wonderful planting and grounds but it smells a bit musty and decayed inside. Grand and sad at the same time.

Another one of those 'must visit' locations in JA. If you're a fan of colonial history you'll enjoy the tour and the grounds. Definitely something for the history buffs...

Description

The construction of Rose Hall Great House began in 1778 and took 12 years to complete. It was once a sprawling 6,521 plantation complete with 2,000 slaves. One resident, Annie Palmer, took slaves as lovers and killed them when she was done. She was killed in 1831, and most people claim the house is haunted by her ghost. It is now a museum, so you can visit and see where this eerie story started. ... read more
