I brought my Maltese, Kuma, to this dog beach for my friend's birthday. It was his first time at a beach and although he was scared of the water, I think he had a great time.
The beach itself is very clean, although I'm sure the sand is completely soaked in a lot of dog urine. People are very good at cleaning up after their dogs and pretty much all the dogs are well behaved.
You can have your dog off leash as long as you stay in the orange cone area. There are dogs of all breeds and sizes there.
There is a parking lot but I'm not sure if you have to pay or not. I parked right out on the street. There was plenty of street parking even on a Saturday.

Love taking the dogs here, or even just people and dog watching. The Huntington Beach dog beach is a bit more dog friendly and larger, but this location is more like a normal beach and doesn't require hiking up and down a hill. However, the lack of fences means dogs can easily run out of the designated dog area, so owners must be very cautious.
