Walking into Hotel Rouge made me feel like I was in the hip area of town. The hotel colors are bright reds and yellows and definitely a scene. The rooms have been recently remodeled with the same bright colors featured in the lobby of the hotel. I noticed a few dog bowls in the rooms.
This hotel is for guests who want a scene from the lobby to the bar to the rooms. After a busy day walking around the city I couldn’t see staying here because it doesn’t feel like a getaway.Recommended for:

Hotel Rouge is straight up funky, in the best sense of the word. There are a lot of really nice touches, from the lobby to the room to the amenities offered. I thought the artwork both in the rooms and in common areas particularly gave the hotel a great rock and roll feel that made the whole experience feel like something more than just a hotel room.
Hotel Rouge is as much a hangout as it is a hotel. The lobby bar has a great vibe, like somewhere you'd get a drink even if you weren't already staying in the room. It gives you a chance to drink like a local without leaving the hotel, as I'm pretty sure there were some Washingtonians enjoying the lobby bar when I visited. Cold pizza nights and a wine hour for guests are also nice touches offered by Hotel Rouge. You might even meet a friend!
If all you want is a nice hotel this one will certainly do the job, but there are better locations. Rouge is reasonably close to hot-spots like Dupont Circle and Logan Circle, but I would recommend staying here because you want to take advantage of the style that the hotel itself has to offer.Recommended for:

This is not your buttoned-down, wingtip-wearing Washington hotel. It’s more like rhinestone jumpsuits and furry purple thigh-high boots.
The red tile floor in the lobby is infused with glittering sparkles – like Graceland crossed with a bordello. But you don’t want to speak in hushed tones and keep your hands folded nicely in your lap all the time, and here at the Hotel Rouge, you don’t have to. The staff is young and friendly and not at all obsequious. They don’t sir and ma’am you, they treat you like a friend.
Walls in the funky guest rooms are adorned with pictures of an icy martini, a shiny red sports car, a grand piano – you know, fun stuff!
The front door meets the exit for the 16th Street underpass, which takes a little bit away from the curb appeal. But just walk right past it on your way Dupont Circle -- it’s only a few blocks away and sooo worth it.Recommended for:

If you stand on the median strip in front of this hotel, you can see the White House straight down 16th Street! But guests are more likely to be heading to the restaurants and nightlife in Dupont Circle. Or, relaxing in the hotel bar that opens at 5 pm each day.
The décor is casual and fun. Befitting the hotel's name, the walls are frequently red or a deep pink.
There was a mix of business people and twenty-somethings on holiday when I visited. With a variety of room configurations, the hotel can accommodate different types of groups.Recommended for:
