The Routeburn Track is a fantastic three day walk near Queenstown. Not for the faint hearted, there are some big hills to climb but the reward of the stunning scenery is worth every step.

This relatively short trek does offer some astounding views. For the most part, it is a relatively easy trek, but for some reason there were very large bags of crushed stone along the path, of which climbing over several of them was somewhat harrowing because of the narrowness of the path.

I just did one day of the Routeburn Track, but it was an incredible hike! Pretty strenuous, but very worth it for what you'll see.

Amazing 2 day (instead of 3) it was very hard but worth the pain. skipping the fist Hut through Harris Saddle to the second Hut. we combined the end of trek with Milford Sound. the ride took us from the edge of Routeburn to Milford sound there we took a cruise and the day after we took a bus back to queenstown where our car parked

a beautiful track that traverses 32 kilometres of Mount Aspiring and Fiordland National Parks; you can take the three days/two nights track (make sure to book ahead) or simply visit for a day trip

Description

New Zealand is famous for its beautiful natural scenery, and one of the best ways to experience this beauty is on foot. Routeburn is a 32 kilometer foot path stretching across a stunning portion of Queenstown. The entire hike is meant only for professional hikers, however, there are easier day trips and guided tours for those with no experience. The sites include things like waterfalls, cliffs, hanging bridges, caves and vast valleys. People interested in hiking the entire path typically set aside three days in order to have time to take in all the beauty.
