Roy Yamaguchi is one of the original fusion chefs who masterminded the Hawaii Regional Cuisine movement. If you've been to a Roy's chain restaurant on the mainland, it's not even close to the same as dining at the slick Waikiki branch (the original Roy's is down the coast in Hawai\]i Kai). The blackened miso cod is a classic dish, and the tasting menus and wine list are both reasonably priced. Call ahead for reservations.

I've eaten hear once when my friend from out of town came to visit me as our big celebrate the occasion/reunion kind of dinner. The food was AMAZING; everything was well prepared, perfectly good, and had great sides paired with it. The server was courteous and attentive, and I didn't ever have to really wait for my water to be refilled. It's a pricy place, but I enjoyed my time there.

I have been to both, in WAIKIKI and HAWAII KAI, one is good, one is great...I Prefer HAWAII KAI and will base my review on that location...
With all the POSITIVE reviews will mine even make a difference? Who knows?
I have only praise for Roy's in Hawaii Kai...I wish I could come here a few times a week but I can only afford it a few times a month and I'm ok with that...well maybe not...lol. Wish I could afford it every week...
Food and Chefs are Top Notch here...when I say CHEFS I feel that all the cooks are Chefs who work here. There may be one Executive Chef but as a team they are firing on all cylinders together fo sure!
I know good food, passion and desire when making artful cuisine, I did it for 20 years myself and the Roy's team has PASSION!
What do I like on the Menu? EVERYTHING! I always try something new and the new item I try NEVER disappoints...EVER!
The Wait staff is TOP NOTCH as well and work in perfect harmony with each other...PERFECT SERVICE every time...
Amazing Food, Amazing Chefs, but putting Amazing front Staff together as well? It's never easy to have a perfect oiled machine working perfectly every single day but Roy's pulls it off every time!
I say CONGRADULATIONS to ROY, himself, for putting in a Management team that works with their Kitchen, Wait Staff, Bartenders and Hosting Staff with passion.
Passion brings you closer to Perfection...they are close and for the service and food quality it's worth every bit of your hard earned money you spend here. I have never said that the check was too much...
When you get service like this and relish each mouthful of your dining experience you just don't care about money...I know that's hard to say these days with such burdens we all have with the economy but it's just the truth when I say it.
When I come here I fully enjoy every single moment, every bite, every smell, every drink, every toast, every laugh, every conversation, every kiss...just everything when I come here....no money to me can replace those feelings.
I can not recommend this place enough...dining outside or up on the second floor of Roy's. In my 20 or so times here...PERFECT FOOD, PERFECT SERVICE, PERFECT MEMORIES...every time.

It's a bit expensive, and not the kind of place you leave stuffed after a single entree, but the quality of the food offered up at Roy's Waikiki holds it's own against any restaurant in Hawaii. Local food has never tasted or looked as good as the plates served up here, thanks to the masterful skills of famous head chef Roy Yamaguchi. His efforts alone have helped to shape Hawaiian cuisine, with amazing fusion dishes that provide a world class dining experience to locals and visitors alike.
