This is the place to see and be seen (in a more natural setting). People are dressed in their best workout clothing and full makeup and everyone looks fantastic working out on the incline for the trail. The park itself is not very pretty but there are great views of the city. It's also a great place to take your dog off leash.

I wanted to take a leisurely/medium-level hike since I had a minor sprain in my ankle from last weekend's hike (ha ha, another hike? I'm smartz).
+ You are hiking... in Hollywood. Thus, you will spot hot people (aka aspiring actors/actresses) who are half-naked.
Good on the eyes and body inspiration. Plus plus.
+ So many cute, well-trained dogs - most of them unleashed
+ A short part of going up will kick your ass, but for the most part, there's no fuss, quick, and leisurely.
- Horrendous hilly street parking. If you live in this area, good luck with hikers taking up your street space, oy. Parking signs and towing hell.
The view here is great. You could see some fancy Hollywood homes, and the view is pretty clear considering it's rare to see an overcast in this area + you're not THAT high up compared to other hikes.
Naked people and dogs, fitness inspiration......... SET

OMG!!! This hike is so LA! I love it! (in my best valley voice)
If you're the type of person who hikes for the sake of hooking up with new people, then this is the hot spot to meet people for dating. Forget the grocery store, hiking is it.
Hell, I wouldn't even be surprised if a person hikes this spot in high heels. You can't go on a hike here without being dressed to the nines in your athletic gear. There is a ton of eye candy for girls, boys and dog lovers!
This is an easy 3.6 mile hike not bad. incline- not that high a cool 800 ft. So needless to say, I think a bad hangover made the hike a bit challenging. I was so under prepared that I brought flat sneakers. Bad idea!
For the most part, it was an easy hike. It was only towards the end that I realized my shoes were going to kill me. The last portion was a little steep and my shoe kept slipping. There were huge wooden steps to assist but with the wrong shoes I had to walk down gingerly. I can see why there was a fence.
The views were pretty neat. I can't believe I've never ventured up here. Once you reach the top you can see the Hollywood sign and the Griffith Observatory. LA looked rad and we actually had an ocean view. The snow capped mountains looked magnificent as a background to the multimillion dollar homes on the hills.
It's a very LA hike, so don't be upset if you're not enjoying nature away from the city. What I love about this place is that it's super dog friendly. Although that is a reason why I love this place, I am a bit disappointed with the amount of doggy doo hanging out on the trail. So shame on you dog owners for not paying close attention to Fido or Fifi.
OH, OH, OH- I almost forgot, this was the first time I've ever seen purse puppies walk. I didn't know they actually had legs. SO cute.

A great place to hike. I'm not much of a hiker and pretty scared of heights and this one is not a problem for me. There are always tons of people, at times a little too much. But the end result is a fabulous view of LA!
Some things I don't like. Tons of dogs off their leash! At times they get in my way. It's also a very hollywood crowd, a lot of people want to be "seen". But at the same time there are a lot of beautiful people enjoying the trail.
Parking is pretty tough but not impossible. Make sure to take your camera!

No matter what level of fitness you're at, you can get a great workout here while enjoying spectacular views of L.A.
As others have mentioned, Runyon doesn't have the most naturey feel to it. A lot of the trails are covered in pot hole ridden asphalt but the hills, city views, and potential celebrity sightings more than make up for it.
