Difficult to get into because of my roguish distaste for making reservations and the food doesn't necessarily make it worthwhile. However, the bartending staff has a rare competence and the atmosphere is relaxing despite the crowd.Recommended for:

One of the highlights of my drinks and appetizers here the other night was the bone marrow. It's certainly a gasto-pub. Good food, good drinks and usually a good time. I was quite pleased with the few plates I tried. I also enjoyed the variety and creativity of the menu. There's something for those foodie thrill-seekers and something for those folks who preferred the tried and true.

The Russell House Tavern is located in the bustling area of Harvard Square and was a welcome addition to the area when it opened in early 2010. It's got great food and a great bar selection, and is also a great place for groups to eat.
You can do happy hour here, with small bites and pizzas, or you can have a nice dinner with steaks and more upscale American fare. There is a smaller, more casual group area upstairs on the street level and a larger dining room and second bar one floor below.
