Ryokan Sawanoya

2丁目3−11 Yanaka, Taito, Tokyo, Japan

Nezu and the surrounding area give off the impression of being both a smattering of both old and new. There are shrines and plenty of cheap local Japanese restaurants and bars of all shapes and sizes. Likewise this traditional hotel is certainly old fashioned, but with accommodating foreigners in mind. The hotel itself is kept extremely clean and has two ...

Yakitori = Grilled mostly chicken skewers. It's a great place for a happy hour. The skewers are fantastic and the beer even better. Go there around 7-8pm to see the locals relaxing after a long day of work.

A Japanese friend met us here for a yakitori dinner. The place is gigantic! The restaurant inspired that scene in Kill Bill in which Uma Thurman kills everyone in a restaurant. The foyer show photos of every celebrity who has visited, which includes Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, former presidents, and the like. Yakitori sticks are about $3 a pop and ...

    4.04 mi from Ryokan Sawanoya

Sushi Dai is located inside of the Tsukiji Fish Market. Believe it or not, they open at 5AM. When we arrived at the restaurant at 5:15AM, there was already a line of people, and we had to wait for the second round of seating which took place about an hour later. Seats are very limited with maybe just 10-12 seats. ...

Located in under the Softbank building in Shiodome, this restaurant serves up the strangest combination of food that I have ever declared to be one of my favorites: curry udon with a tempura banana. Strange? Yes. Delicious? Absolutely. Don't knock it until you try it! I was taken here by coworkers in Japan, and it was one of my favorite ...

Based in Roppongi Hills, this soba house has house-made, hand-cut traditional buckwheat soba. Get it cold with grated mountain yam and enjoy the space. The design is über-modern and funky—there's this totally shredded Al Merrick surfboard on the wall that's been made into a painting. It's just fantastic. There's also an outpost in New York City's Soho!

I think the Tokyo outlet of this Sydney restaurant is better than the original. High quality innovative modern fusion in an attractive environment with attentive service. Perfect for a business dinner or special night out. The pre fixe dinner is exceptionally good value given the quality level. The wine list is extensive and pricing isn't egregious for Japan.

So the famous Sushi Dai which is right next door will have you waiting for hours. We opted to try Sushi Daiwa and we were the second ones seated at 5:30 when they opened (Dai opens at 5). I can't compare it to Dai as I have never been, but the fish is great as is the price. Something under ...

Wow the ramen and Tsukemen are so delicious. You order from a machine first and then take your ticket to the counter and they ask you how you'd like to customize your noodle texture. They don't speak English, but there are photos of all the dishes on the buttons! Love this place!

This is a relatively inexpensive sushi restaurant near Tsukiji Fish Market. While it is part of a chain, the quality of food here is quite good. Had a conger eel and maguro tuna rice bowl here that was large and filling. Conger eel is worth trying to compare the taste to the more well known, unagi. The rice bowl also ...

This 12-seat bar has the best sushi of your life. The menu is very seasonal, with exquisite selections. One of my favorites is the ika—a ribbon cut of squid with salt and sudachi. The salt is from Okinawa, and comes only from the bottom of the sea floor as opposed to the top of the wave as most salt is. ...

Picturesque Japanese yakitori restaurant located next to Inokashira Park. This is one of Tokyo's more famous yakitori restaurants and its reputation is well deserved. Don't expect fancy. This is a great place to roll up your sleeves, down a mug of beer, and enjoy yakitori or corn on the cob. Located in a building that seems as old as Japan. ...

The same tasty goodness that you will find in France but tucked away inside the Lumine at Shinjuku station. The atmosphere feels very commercial and less authentic but the macaroons are perfect.

A great spot to try taiyaki -- a fish shaped cake filled with cream or azuki (red) bean paste. You'll find the dish all over Japan and in department store food markets. This spot specializes in the treat.

If you want authentic Soba noodles, you HAVE to find this place. I mean LITERALLY find it, because unless you can read Japanesse (which I can't) you'll have to wander a bit to find the rustic old building in the middle of many newer ones. The decore is true to the age of the building, and in reality it is ...
