14/20; Food 7/10, Ambience 3/5, Service 4/5. In its own building (one that has seen several restaurants come and go over the years) in St James. Original decor with an escalator connecting the reception and sushi bar downstairs with the main dining room upstairs. A wooden sculpture on the roof lends and some tatami-style tables (legs into a hole in the floor under table) lend some atmosphere, but all in all it is an odd space. The menu has been revised a few times since difficult beginnings. It now looks like a cross section of various traditional Japanese cooking styles and ye olde fusion cuisine. A few interesting combinations, and generally of a high quality. Some of the sakes are really quite good accompaniments. It does feel as if this concept restaurant is on a steady decline though. Ok evening out with good food, but I don't think I'll be going back.
