I'm a convert to Texas-style BBQ. Never thought I'd say that, but just one visit here made me believe in fall-apart-in-your-hands tender brisket with no sauce necessary (though they have it, if you really need it). The drive out from Austin into the rolling hill country is beautiful, especially around sunset. This is a classic Texan roadhouse, nothin' fancy. Just delicious.

One of my favorite BBQ places in the country. Go family style and go nuts. The burnt end brisket is the best. But don't forget the ribs. Be prepared to wait but the food is worth both the wait and the drive. I didn't know it was byob the first time I came here. I saw people wheeling ice chests through the restaurant and thought WTF?!?!?! But people bring their own beer and they bring a lot. Great food, great fun, the more friends you go with the better. And don't forget to check the crazy huge grill that the food is cooking on.

The barbecue isn't bad but it's not my favorite. The ambience and experience however can't be beat.
It's a bit of a drive but well worth it. For the best experience go there on a night that they have live music outside. It's BYOB so bring the fun and a designated driver!

Any fan of BBQ needs to include this one their must eat list. The Dritfwood location is especially nice, located in the Hill Country there is simply no better place to enjoy a ice cold beef and some of the best brisket in the BBQ world.
One word of advice, save room for a slice of pecan pie.

I went here with insider knowledge that this is the greatest bbq place in the nation. Usually when people tell me a place is that good it never lives up to the hype, but the Salt Lick BBQ did just that and more! I love this place, the atmosphere, the people, and especially the food.

I've eaten here since 1971 and it is better than ever. The brisket, sausage, ribs, and turkey are excellent. The rural setting in the Texas hill country is amazing, just outside of Austin. Their new wine cellar is a great place to taste test wines that I think you will be hearing a lot more about in the future.
