Quite a standard if you stay near Puerto Montt, Puerto Varas but still a must-see. Better travel there with a "micro" if you want the touch and feel of a local. No need to have a professional guide as long as you stick to the usual trekking path. Make sure to make the last few kilometers to Lagos Todos los Santos. It's not only a perfect place to surf or kite but also a top notch place for trekking and hiking. I suggest you don't go there in January because the "Colivachos", some funny but really nerve straining bugs or bees (honestly I don't know what exactely they are) will be after you and when i say after you I mean after you. They are not quite dangerous though they sting and that can hurt if you are stung several times in a row. Any other month is okay. If you are man or woman enough to do it anyways here's the trick: if you find yourself in a cloud of Colivachos, don't run, not even rush away but duck to the earth, better sit down if not even lie down and wait. Back on the main road stick to a place where cars frequently pass by as these ballbreakers usually fly with the cars a bit. While they are distracted change position fast. Even better: find some high place and relax - they usually don`t fly high but stick to the ground! Any else than that los Saltos son increible!
