The Hotel Circle, a hub of more than a dozen mid-range hotels and motels just to the north of downtown, is especially attractive to those looking to save some money without sacrificing on quality or amenities. Many of these establishments have great travel deals, in addition to features like indoor and outdoor pools, fitness rooms, free breakfast, onsite restaurants, and kitchenettes.

Old Town San Diego is a great place to stay if you want to spend time exploring the historic Spanish mission and presidio and some of the city’s best shopping and restaurants. The small neighborhood has just a handful hotels, many of which come with a reasonable price tag. Another popular neighborhood in San Diego is Little Italy in downtown, just a few blocks from the Embarcadero. For a charming B&B experience in a Victorian mansion, check out the Keaton House, just a few blocks away from the park. Another excellent historic option located just a little further away in the trendy Gaslamp district is the US Grant. Open since 1910, this hotel is one of the city’s most luxurious, and because of its rich history, it is itself an important San Diego attraction.

If it’s time on the coast that you seek, you won’t be disappointed by San Diego beaches, which are lined with hotels that are perfect for a range of budgets. Luxury resorts include the Catamaran Resort and Spa, complete with historic lodgings and a private beach, the family and pet-friendly Loews Coronado Bay Resort, and the Hotel Del Coronado, which boasts one of the best views in the city and a designation as a National Historic Landmark. More affordable options include the Ocean Beach Hotel and the Pacific Shores Inn. Young travelers can opt for the party hostels in Pacific Beach, while those seeking more tranquility and luxury can head north to the posh town of La Jolla.
