A really fantastic museum, hard to believe (yet lucky!) we have so many in our own (San Diego's) backyard. Located just north of downtown, visit this gem of a museum that regularly features major exhibitions from around the world, as well as an extensive year-round schedule of supporting cultural and educational programs for children and adults. Very cool that the exhibition text is always in English and Spanish. Parking is close-by, located behind the Organ Pavilion. ps... closed on Wednesdays, ask for the student/military/senior discounts if applicable!Recommended for:

The region’s oldest, largest and most visited art museum, provides a rich and diverse cultural experience for almost 250,000 visitors annually. Located in the heart of Balboa Park, the Museum’s nationally renowned permanent collection includes Spanish and Italian old masters, South Asian paintings, and 19th- and 20th-century American paintings and sculptures. The Museum also regularly features major exhibitions from around the world, as well as an extensive year-round schedule of cultural and educational programs for children and adults. All exhibition text is shown in English and Spanish. Stay tuned to their website for coveted annual events, such as the Spring floral exhibit, Art Alive. Also, watch for discounted days for locals and Macy's museum month partnership in March.Recommended for:

What I really appreciate about this museum is the quality of the special exhibitions. They do a great job of highlighting the history of Mexican art and showing some terrific contemporary Mexican and Latin American art. Admission is free.Recommended for:

Located inside sprawling Balboa Park, which is home to 15 museums, the SD Museum of Art is the area's oldest and largest art museum. It houses an impressive collection of American, European, Latin American and Asian art. Modern art lovers will appreciate that there are pieces by Matisse, Dalí, Magritte, Rivera, and Miró - just to name a few.
Admission is $12 for adults and note that the museum is closed on Mondays. There's free parking in the large lot just a short walk from the museum.Recommended for:

Well, this is a world-class museum isn't it? I have seen paintings "in person" here that I thought I would only see in books. Even the building itself is worth seeing, as any art museum should be. I try to go every time I am in San Diego. There are also nice cafes, since it is in Balboa Park, and plenty of other museums to see. Plan for more than one day!
