San Francisco Hotels
San Francisco offers accommodations that suit any budget or lifestyle. The young and chic flock to the W Hotel San Francisco, where hip décor and a trendy nightlife can be found. Atop Nob Hill lies the elegant Fairmont San Francisco, built just before the 1906 Great Earthquake, a palatial hotel that houses the ever-exciting Tonga Room tiki bar. Within the Westin St. Francis, a historic hotel along the edge of Union Square, you’ll discover chef Michael Mina’s renowned restaurant, Bourbon Steak. For drinks, head to the elegant Redwood Room in the Clift Hotel. The Palace Hotel San Francisco is a historic designated landmark. Even if you don’t stay for a night, you can stop by and get a guided tour led by volunteers.

Things to do in San Francisco
San Francisco’s obsession with gold began during the Gold Rush of 1848, when speculators from around the world sought their fortunes in the Western frontier. Now the Golden Gate Bridge, perhaps the city’s most popular attraction, stands majestically over the mouth of the Bay where their ships once entered. In Golden Gate Park, a family-friendly nature destination spanning over 1,000 acres, you’ll find hiking trails, hidden monuments, playgrounds, sporting facilities, and museums like the de Young Museum and the California Academy of Sciences. Have a picnic in a hidden garden or rent a bike for a ride; there’s enough here to fill an entire day’s schedule. For a date with some animal friends, head to the San Francisco Zoo near Lake Merced and discover a wide variety of wild creatures. Or you can take a stroll to Pier 39 to check out the sunbathing sea lions while you savor some local seafood paired with signature San Francisco sourdough. When you’re done, explore the many novelty shops and fun restaurants of Fisherman’s Wharf. Listen for the chiming bell for your chance to partake in something truly San Franciscan: a cable car ride. Crisscrossing through the city, the historic mode of transportation takes travelers through popular neighborhoods like Chinatown, the Financial District, Union Square, and Nob Hill. From the waterfront, a quick ferry ride can take visitors to top destinations like Alcatraz, Angel Island, and Sausalito. From under the Oakland Bay Bridge, boat passengers can spot the illuminated AT&T Park at night, where the San Francisco Giants continue to please and “torture” baseball fans. As the cultural center of Northern California, San Francisco’s attractions continue to exhibit the artistry, progressive thought, and offbeat mindset of the city, a first-class destination born from a once-lawless gold-mining town.

Sir Francis Drake Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

Sir Francis Drake Hotel - a Kimpton Hotel

    Hotel Class:
    4
    14 reviews

This is actually my least favorite Kimpton hotel to stay at. The location is superb, and the Starlight Lounge is on top, but I find the rooms a little drab. Also, I absolutely HATE the noise here. Not the hotel bar, the street noise bothered me all night long.

    Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco

    Four Seasons Hotel San Francisco

    Hotel Class:
    4.5
    11 reviews

This is one of the better Four Seasons properties that I have stayed at in the US. Great location, rooms, and impeccable but friendly service. Really nothing not to like. Recent construction means that the property doesn't have the tired feel of of some of the properties on the East Coast. Loved the corner room -- lot's of light and ...

Got a great deal on a room with a friend since we wanted to go out on Friday night in the city. The room was big, the toiletries were great (Peter Thomas Roth). The room had a great view of Coit Tower and the bay (we were in the 18th floor) and the bed was cozy. I just woke up ...

Hotel Triton - a Kimpton Hotel

    Hotel Class:

Why, yes, in fact, Jerry Garcia of the Grateful Dead and Kathy Griffin both designed guest rooms at the Hotel Triton. But fear not if you miss out; every room at the Triton is a hip rainbow of colors and styles, many with graffiti-esque art, chalk boards, or other whimsical design touches. The Triton is home to those looking for ...

    Hyatt at Fisherman's Wharf

    Hotel Class:

From the get-go, both the customer service and the shine of the lobby impress. Crisp uniforms and smiles, clean and modern decor, and a sunny interior make you forget you're in tacky (yet fun) Fisherman's Wharf. The rooms are well-appointed, with iHome clocks and lots of plugs for all of those gizmos you probably have that I've never heard of. ...

Hotel Nikko in SF is very nice inside, very "upscale". Stayed on the 12th floor, so the views of the city were great. Negatives: Parking at the Hotel costs an arm and a leg! Plus, the area around the hotel is not very 'walking' friendly.

On the outskirts of San Francisco Chinatown, you will find this hidden gem. This is the sister to the Orchard ...

We like the Good Hotel in our San Francisco budget category since it's not only cheap and in downtown San Francisco, it also has a very San Franciscan commitment to being, well... good. Is it fancy? Heavens, no. Might you see a few prostitutes or meth addicts whilst entering or exiting? Oh, yes. But it's ridiculously central, half the cost ...

A boutique hotel in the middle of the Financial District around the corner from the huge Old Navy. They offer rooms with shared bathrooms or ensuite bath. The accommodations are mostly modern and it's probably one of the best sleeps I've had in a hotel. That said, the rooms are a bit small so be prepared for that.

There's nothing really wrong with this place, and you can find decent rates here sometimes, but I feel like I'm grading on a curve compared to the other Kimpton hotels and this hotel just seems a little lacking. What makes staying at the Huntington Hotel so special? Located in Union Square, shopping Mecca. The rooms are wonderful. Comfy beds. TV. Fridge, coffee maker. And tons of mirrors.
