    Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa isn't someplace you'd go out of your way to see but if you find yourself there, there are plenty of hidden gems. Visit Annadel State Park, see the Luther Burbank Gardens, visit the street market during the summer months, or take in some of the quirky spas, wineries, or restaurants that the region is famous for.

Great suburb in Silicon Valley. Has a small downtown but is very close to downtown Los Gatos. Saratoga hills have a Japanese garden, Hakone Gardens and wineries, including Savannah Chanelle which plays love music every Friday night!

San Carlos is the suburb just south of Belmont and the former home of the Circle Star Theater, a local favorite when I lived in these parts. San Carlos is relatively small and affluent, with one main draw being Laurel Street with all its cool little restaurants and shops.

Head over the foothills to the small town and beach of Pescadero. Pescadero State Beach (read parking lot, toilets, and trash cans) is a wide, clean expanse of sand that's popular with locals--when I lived in Palo Alto, I'd go there at least a couple times a month. And don't miss the artichoke bread from Arcangeli Grocery Store--perfect for a ...

When I first moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from Houston in 1984 (has it really been that long ago?), Compared to Texas, I thought $650/Month was an outrageous price to pay from rent, but I got used to that and the cool view from my hill side window. I'd walk down to the El Camino to shop and ...

It's tough to suggest someplace to go from SF for a weekend getaway when you haven't given any specifics as to what you're looking for. However, I'm going to recommend Livermore for a number of reasons: 1) it's an easy drive from most Bay Area cities; 2) it's an affordable option; 3) you can learn how to play bocce ball ...
