    SF MoMA

There is almost always an interesting exhibit and it is in a fun part of the city - more museums in the square and great restaurants. Be sure to also check out the Asian Museum.

    De Young Museum

    4.5
    85 reviews

Housed in a gorgeous modern building (though some critics feel it looks like the superstructure of an aircraft carrier) in Golden Gate Park, it's a perfect stopoff during a ramble through the park. Collections of particular note are from Africa and Oceania, though their modern painting and Meso-American art collections have some strong pieces as well.

California Palace of the Legion of Honor

Truly astonishing Museum and setting. This is a small museum with an eclectic but very high quality collection of fine arts, crafts, and exhibits. There are frequently free concerts played in its central atriums. Many of the rooms are breathtaking. Outside it is located in one of the most beautfiul places in the world. Views of Golden Gate Bridge, Marin ...

    Asian Art Museum

    4.5
    35 reviews

For a long time, Asian art really didn't interest me. It wasn't until I came here alone on my birthday once—my daytime gift to myself—for the Shanghai exhibit did I really learn to appreciate it. The museum is partitioned by countries, so you get a good feel for the history of each region. It's rarely crowded, even on free days, ...

    Conservatory of Flowers

    4.5
    34 reviews

I love the architecture of this greenhouse. I hoped there would be more colorful flowers inside (there's a lot more green than any other color), but they feature very nice exotic plants and flowers inside. Take note: This place is H-O-T inside! Be prepared to be immersed in sauna-like temperatures and humidity...

    Contemporary Jewish Museum

    4
    10 reviews

If I could only pick one favorite among the newer additions to the downtown area, I would choose the Contemporary Jewish Museum. What was once a barren lot is now a beautiful structure with an elegant open area out front. Combined with Yerba Buena Gardens across the street, this one area has become one of my favorite places to relax ...

    Cartoon Art Museum

    4.5
    8 reviews

It's a small, but cute museum especially if you're into cartoons and comics. I haven't been in a couple of years, but one of the last times I went they had a pretty sweet Watchmen exhibit up. The gift shop's a little expensive, but what gift shop isn't?

The Mission District is famous for its murals, and the best mural collection is just steps from our front door.

    2 reviews

If you're visiting SF, do yourself a favor and stop in to The Beat Museum. While you have to pay a small amount to go into the actual museum part, you can browse the store section for free. Learn about Kerouac and all those other crazy beatnik kids.

SFMOMA Museum Store at SFO Airport

    4
    2 reviews

The SF MOMA Store at SFO is my favourite shopping airport spot and is worth a stop even if you're not flying through the International Terminal. In fact, I've been known to stop by during both Departures and Arrivals and even when I'm on Domestic flights. That's actually easy, as the main Domestic terminals are both directly connected to International ...

I love even walking by this tiny little museumito! They always have the most awesome, radical folk merch out front. It's a continuous window shopping delight.

Contemporary, graphic, graffiti art. I really enjoyed visiting this art gallery - I love how different it is. The surrounding area is not very nice though as there are a lot of bums hanging around.

Fecal Face Gallery is my favorite space in San Francisco. Located in the heart of The Mission it is the perfect place to stop and see some progressive and dangerous art. The gallery may be small, but it is mighty, and I am always impressed with their shows.

Sadly kind of ruined. Located on 720 Grant Ave, between Commercial and Sacramento. I love Banksy and his graffiti art. There's about 6 in San Francisco, so I plan on visiting all of them!

    Incline Gallery

    1 review

This gallery is well named for the fact that the entire gallery sits on an continuous upward "spiral" ramp that goes on an incline. Pretty clever! They were showing some exhibits by a guy named Peter who had this interesting KAWS like obsession with bunnies and old records. The bunnies part was pretty awesome. They even had paper airplane dropping ...
