I've walked by the San Francisco Fountain for years. I've even sat for hours on the steps next to it. But it wasn't until recently that I discovered what it was (thanks to a Gogobot trip recommendation).

The San Francisco Fountain features a number of Bay Area monuments carved into its side. From the Palace of Fine Arts to a Chinese lion dance, you could really spend a good amount of time playfully searching for things here. Thomas Keller's French Laundry is even here!

This is one amazing bronze fountain right on the premise of the Grand Hyatt on Stockton street. What is so cool about this fountain is that we can find all relevant SF landmarks and sights (at the time of construction...in the 70s) all built into it in bronze. (somethings are timeless though) We can do scavenger hunt of things SF...all right here, in one place!

Description

Located at the base of the steps alongside the Grand Hyatt hotel a block north of Union Square, the San Francisco Fountain depicts all of the city's most famous attractions along its surface. Local artist Ruth Asawa designed the fountain in 1973, depicting everything from the Palace of Fine Arts to Thomas Keller's French Laundry restaurant in Napa.
