Great wide and beautiful zoo less than a mile from the ocean. My favorite is the entrance area where the giraffes are located, it looks like a safari in Africa. The rest of the zoo is pretty basic.

The SF Zoo is great - really nice layout, and its location near the beach means there is often a bit of fog that gives it a bit of a mysterious air. An amazing activity with kids. When we were there there were a couple of baby gorillas which was awesome.

I went with a few friends and had a great time. The animals were pretty spread so it took a solid 2 hours to get through. What makes this zoo great is how close you can get to the animals, I was basically 5 feet away from the grizzly bear!

When my daughter was young we went here at least once a week. The playground is one of the best in the city. The zoo is above average. The carousel and train are fun for kids. In recent years several upgrades have made it even better (Giraffe house). It is a very pretty zoo, nicely laid out and good for walking. If you like zoos, you will like this one.

We were there on a Sunday.
The place was not too crowded and nice.

The animals seemed sad though, I don't know if it's the SF weather or something else

I especially like their Africa area. The carousel brings back childrens dreams. Be careful if you sit down outside at the cafe to eat. We saw seagulls attacking people coming out with the tablet (no hands free) and they took away their food. They are really aggressive!

The San Francisco Zoo is a cute, medium to small zoo that is a ton of fun, especially with kids. The children area is a must see for kids of all ages..

this was our favorite zoo when we lived in Northern California. not too large and completely flat so it's not too hard to walk around with very young kids. there's limited parking so you want to come early on busy days (summer weekends). don't forget to always bring something warm to wear even on a nice and sunny summer day.
