I wasn't one of those people who started out already in love with this city. In fact, I started out thinking it was kind of full of itself and overrated. But over time I too withered to its charms, and before long I was gushing about its nooks and cranies, and now I am a full-fledged San Francisco adorer. It is known as one of the best cities in the world, and it lives up to that reputation.

The most friendly and smart city in the USA. Great offer of activities and outdoor life. Its size is perfect for walkers.

I'm a little biased but San Francisco is my favorite city. It has everything: unique culture that varies by neighborhood, an amazing variety of food, an endless number of events and activities, and nature in the city and nearby. It's walkable, especially if you're fond of hills, and bus-able in most places. The downfall is that it's becoming more expensive -- to live and visit -- but still has has many bargains.

The Ferry Building Marketplace and palm trees along the streetcar line on the Embarcadero. Diego Rivera's murals inside Coit Tower, with hilltop views of Alcatraz prison island. Overstuffed burritos that have almost lost structural integrity in the Mission. Running in Golden Gate Park out to Ocean Beach, or circling through the Cal Academy of Sciences and de Young art museum. Knowing the only real bars, bakeries and delis in North Beach. Shopping for quirk in Hayes Valley, Cole Valley or Noe Valley after climbing up a giant hill on foot or in first gear. Sailing across the bay to Marin County, or cycling across the Golden Gate Bridge. Escaping to wine country for the day or the weekend.

There’s a Youtube meme going around right now based on the joke that no one in San Francisco has a job. The reason it’s funny is because it’s not wrong. Or rather, it seems less people in San Francisco are doing things they don’t want to do than in any other American city of similar economic and cultural scope. It is a place full of artists, musicians, activists, computer nerds, non-profit directors, fashion designers, sommeliers, and entrepreneurs. It’s also beautiful, on the water, a major international business center, and has a long, interesting history. And it’s in close proximity to a number of other interesting places, including Berkeley, Napa Valley, and Tahoe. There is perhaps more diversity, progressive thinking, and game-changing ideas on that 7x7 mile island than the entirety of some states. Which means there are also endless diversions for tourists: beautiful monuments, sophisticated opera and theater houses, major music venues, beautiful hilltop hikes, guided historical tours, upscale shopping, funky D.I.Y.-style shopping, all-night dance parties, all-day yoga retreats, world-renowned restaurants, Alcatraz, Fisherman’s Wharf, the Castro, the cable cars.

Love this city! It may be chilly year round, but the people are down to earth and friendly and the food and outdoors are amazing!

San Francisco is filled with steep hills and often has a gray, misty air that permeates throughout the city. Nevertheless, there is still a laid back vibe to San Fran that exemplify its place as a cool West Coast city. The only drawback is driving around the roads and traffic can be nightmarish so taking public transit is highly advised.Recommended for:Foodies

Truly one of the best cities in the world. Full of diversity, great food, restaurants, bars, cool people, culture, history, and so much more. The city is easy to get around by car, walking, or public transportation. There's so much to see and do, you'll never get tired of the city by the bay.

I love SF. It's a fun walkable city with so many interesting neighborhoods and parks. Be sure to walk Ocean Beach and the bay front. SF is a peninsula! Water on three sides! One of my favorite walks was from Fisherman's Wharf to downtown. Do check out Ft. Mason, the great museums, and head to Golden Gate Park and visit the buffalo and the windmill. Remember, it's rarely hot, often cool and foggy, winters are rainy. Best time to visit would be September and October, though really winter between storms can be fantastic, clear, and sunny.

San Francisco is beautiful, full of excitements and good foods. I would love it more if driving is easier, but on the other hand, public transportation is good but time consuming.
