Though not a typical touristy district of Lima, San Isidro actually has a lot to offer. Many of the new upscale hotels are going in here (The Westin - the tallest building in Peru - is one of the most recent and noteworthy) and new restaurants seem to open up almost daily. The financial center of the city, this is also where a lot of the money stays, and many of the most beautiful homes and neighborhoods are located here, making this a great district to walk around in. One of the best strolls in town can be taken through the Olivar Park.

What I remember most from the Barrio San Isidro is the embassy row. I find it really awesome to see embassies of countries that are not usually present in most western countries (namely North America) such as: North Korea and Cuba. It was the closest I have gotten to "visit" said countries....while in Peru!

One of the best places to stay in Lima. Beautiful streets and great infrastructure. Some great hotels and restaurants are located here.

Description

Now a major financial district as banks have moved out from downtown locations, San Isidro, a suburb of Lima, Peru, may impress you more as a safe, quiet, upscale residential area. Take a walking tour through the cobblestone streets of its older sections to see its elegant older residences and many parks, especially El Olivar, established over 450 years ago and full of hundreds of olive trees. Artists and embassies alike have also moved into this garden district. Be sure to see the restored pre-Inca burial temple, Huaca Huallamarca, which houses a small museum.
