San Jose

We stopped in San Jose on our last night -- so that we can get a bit of the the feeling of the city life and also make sure we don't miss our flight in the AM... The city is crowded. There are a lot of people. Not as much cultural/historical buildings as I would have liked to see, lots ...

Basically the road ends here. Take it past Jaco (which apparently is overrun with drugs and prostitutes) and you have the amazing little town of Quepos. It's near San Antonio National park - we saw more animals in this park than we did staying 3 days in the rainforest. Multiple beautiful beaches. I want to go back!

Close to Jaco, this little town is where the Tarcoles river is and that is where the crocodile tours are. We paid $69 each person to go on the Crocodile tour and even though it was cool to see our boat driver stand a foot away from a crocodile to feed it, we didn't feel that was worth $69. Amazingly ...

Heredia is the 4th province in Costa Rica, located in the Central Valley and only 15 minutes from San Jose Airport and 25 minutes from San Jose City. Surrounded by mountains, this town offers 2 national parks: The Barva Volcano and Braulio Carillo. The town is simple, picturesque and friendly place for a long stay. It also has one of ...

Not as consistent surf as Hermosa nearby, but if you want the 'beach to yourself' feeling, this is the place to be.

This was a great place to spot wildlife with really easy hiking trails. I was recovering from a broken ankle but also wanted to get out into the forest and use my new camera lens for some wildlife shots and this place delivered! It's just a short drive from Jaco. While there, we saw capuchin monkeys, scarlet macaws, coatis, and ...

This place is about as close to Heaven as you can get on Earth. A trout filled chrystal clear river runs through the village and there are small hotels and lodges dotting the banks. The weather here is very cool at night (can get in the 30's) and this is the home of the delightful Quetzal bird. You can hire ...
