This sandy spit is a natural wonder.
There has been entirely too much development on it, but the water is warm, the beach littered with sand dollars, and there is a gold mineralization that make the water shine at sunset.
If you go to the north end, you may still be able to camp out on the dunes. If so, heaven still exists.
Also there are horses for livery, which is sublime.
Tangentially, the firewood sellers you pass on the way in are a pretty cool lot, and if you return to one a second or third time, you will find the deals just keep getting better. The same goes for the olives and other roadside offerings.
But the beach is the thing.
Edit: Oh man, google earth shows the place to be heavily developed now... good luck with whatever you find.
