Nickname: Handy Slut. And its reputation precedes it, especially from stories I've heard. Dive bar where Burnside and Sandy used to cross. Always found this place comfortable with its pool table and distinctively metal oriented jukebox. 4-7pm Happy Hour with $2.75 wells and $2 tall boys (those distinctive Pabsts). It's the kind of place where you're likely to get some crazy story out of the bartender when it's quiet or end up on the verge of a fight. Like this one time where I was talking to this girl outside and this drunk out of his mind Minnesotan made an under-his-breath comment about me being Asian talking to a white girl. I demanded that he speak up as he continued to mutter under his breath until his friends shuffled him away. Portland's kind of like that, put up or shut up. Most shut up.

Some serious elbow bending is done here. This windowless, free standing structure is designed to keep the chaos in and the temperance out.
Drinks are strong and cheap, and the bartenders are down to earth and friendly. Two pool tables and a few video games provide low key distractions, and some booths provide comfort.
Like all Portland bars, hot and cold food is available. I vaguely recall the burgers being quite good and just what I needed at the moment. My friends had more enthusiasm for the "tater-tots", which I just can't face.
The main draw here is the bar's dedication to doing one thing and doing it right - when you want to get yer drunk on, this is the go to place.
A wise customer keeps some cab fare somewhere safe for the end of the night!
