Santa Maria della Vittoria

Via 20 Settembre, 17, Rome, Province of Rome, Italy
18 reviews

Rome is filled with precious pieces of art history that a traveler in a hurry could overlook, and this church is one. Secreted inside is Bernini's masterwork Ecstasy of Saint Teresa, a prime example of sensual Baroque sculpture.

    Piazza della Repubblica

0.16 mi from Santa Maria della Vittoria
    41 reviews

Piazza della Repubblica is one of Rome's grand sights if you're traveling by car, much like how PIazza Venezia wows newcomers to the Eternal City. It's not surrounded by tourists and there's a beautiful fountain in the center. The architecture around the Fontana delle Naiadi is equally beautiful, especially at night when the place is dramatically illuminated.

Step through the unassuming entrance to this amazing church located in a building that used to house Roman baths. You will be greeted by a grand dome topped with an incredible stained glass image of the solar system. Inside, you can admire the old meridian which, until the mid 1800s, was used to set the clocks in Rome.

If I could live anywhere in Rome, it would be in Monti. Hip restaurants, classic Italian boutiques, and a central location between the Colosseum, Centro Storico and the Trevi Fountain make it a must-see neighborhood. Small streets that aren't crowded at night lead to a piazza where young folk congregate with pizza slices and beers. My favorite gelateria (Fatamorgana) is ...

Quite possibly the best coffee in Rome. That's saying a lot but I ordered a decaf cappuccino (1,30 euro) and it was DELICIOUS. Normally I don't expect full bodied flavor from decaf but this was a different beast all together. There was complexity and fruitiness. It was very good. You order at the register, pay, get your receipt and bring ...

Rome's palm tree filled Piazza is just behind Termini Station and, these days, filled with Indian and Chinese markets, as well as renowned quirky discount Emporium MAS. The square was the geographic center for the Orchestra di Piazza Vittorio, a multicultural band that has found a degree of international fame. If you're lucky, you'll catch them playing here of a ...

Cool shop located near the Pantheon for those looking for gourmet treats to sample and send home. You can try a number of meats and some liquors here. It was the first and only time I tried meloncello! Fun to browse, even if you're not planning on buying anything.

It may not technically be the heart of Rome but it was here on these steps that I felt in tune (as much as a tourist can be) with this great city. Can't think of a better way to watch the sun go down than with someone you love, sitting on the Spanish Steps in Rome, sipping on some fine ...

Piazza di Spagna is probably one of the most "pretty" of the piazze in Centro Storico. The fountain adds a nice touch to the impressive transition of Via dei Condotti opening up to the Spanish Steps. It's crowded, but for good reason.

There is a lot to see in the Borghese Gallery but the main reason to reserve tickets to visit is to see the unbelievable Bernini sculptures, particularly, Apollo and Daphne, and Poseidon and Persephone. The exquisite skill demonstrated in those works is amazing. The thin leaves growing from Daphne's fingers and the pliant flesh on Persphone's thigh makes it almost ...
