Great place to lounge and relax. A mix of foodie heaven and some tourist traps. I hate the crowds during summer and Christmas season.
I use to shop a lot on 3rd Street when I worked nearby. Then I explored the city more when I was always there on weekends.Recommended for:

3rd street promenade has amazing shopping right by the beach! Traffic is insane so be prepared! Awesome fun on the weekends and evenings with street performers, artists and love music.Recommended for:

Santa Monica is absolutely beautiful. Known as silicon beach, it is the technology haven of Los Angeles.
Beyond technology however, there's plenty to do here. From the beach to the fair, there is a lot to see. Go a little bit more south and you will hit Venice Beach, Popular for helping the bodybuilding craze rise to fame in the 1970s.

Very nice and B E autiful ... We had fun tons to do and eat.. Cupcake shops are yummy.. The only hard thing was some of the homeless, we tried to hook them up with food.. I felt bad walking out of a high end restaurant with my beautiful wife and seaing that. Hmmm.. I don't know... Other then that it is gorgeous and there is tons to do.Recommended for:

Love Santa Monica Beach and Promenade. Go there often with grandkids to spend the day by the ocean and to have dinner at one of the outdoor cafes on the Promenade. Good shopping and always something to see.Recommended for:

Normally I am not one to review a city. However, I may have to start making some exceptions to that. This is one of those great extremely well known destination beach cities in Los Angeles.
I bet you ask some random farmer in Nebraska if they have heard of Santa Monica, CA they will know its a beach city with a fun zone pier. Its like Coney Island, NY or Venice Beach, CA. Everyone knows it.
Pro Tip: Parking here is a royal BEE-ATCH! but the structures at Third Street Promenade give you an hour and a half for free, longer with a movie validation on Third Street. Otherwise say hello to the meters running rampant everywhere
However this is a cultural mecca for LA. This is where you can go to experience a ton of kewl things that dont exist in most of the rest of LA. Street performers on third street; the fun zone on the pier; the workout that "the staircase" is; the restaurants; the malls; the clubs; the beach; seriously what is not here that is "Elle Ehhhhh"?
We love it. At least I do. This is one of the few places that I really enjoy on the westside. I think everyone should check it out at least 55 bazillion times...

One of the most charming places in the city. The beaches certainly won't win any awards but a nice place to take a break. The main shopping strip is a bit too commercial but still pleasant.

Santa Monica is the best part of LA, hands down. The breeze blows in off the ocean - there is very little smog as a result. The traffic and parking can be kind of tough, but deal with this by walking or riding a bike! The restaurants are great, the bar scene is poppin, and the shopping is excellent. The rest of LA is pretty gnarly - Santa Monica is the way to go!

Santa Monica on a warm sunny Sunday is a great place to be, friendly people, farers market on the street and of course those lovely views of the beach and sea. A little crowded in places, it doesn't take much to get away from everyone else and find some quiet space if that's what you're after

One of the greatest beach cities in the US. Great weather and amazing shops, easy to walk around with always so much to do. The atmosphere is laid back and relaxed, a walk down the pier is the best way to get a feel for how great this city is.

Santa Monica is one of my favorite beach cities in all of California. Both a beautiful place to visit and live in. There are endless amounts of things to see and do here. You'll find great shopping along Third Street Promenade, amazing restaurants and bars, an iconic pier to stroll along, and a beautiful beach. If you're visiting, stay at one of the many nice hotels along Ocean.

The first time I saw Santa Monica in some ways I felt like being in SoBe Miami. the pedestrian area is full of nice shops and people walking. The beach is really wide with Santa Monica Pier that attracts many families with children.

This beautiful city in the greater Los Angeles area has plenty of things to do and is great for the family. Third street promenade has several blocks of great shopping, bars, food, and entertainment in the form street performers. Plenty of restaurants line the blocks surrounding the promenade as well and the it caps off on the south side with a mall. The Santa Monica pier has a small amusement park, an arcade, an old fashion carousel, and even an aquarium right at the base. Along Santa Monica runs the boardwalk which will go from Temescal Canyon all the way down to PV, great for biking or for a nice long run. Along the way you will pass great beach towns like Venice, Marina Del Rey, Play Del Rey, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach.
