Learn more about historic Santa Monica City Hall while enjoying its seaside location, only a quick jump across or down the Pacific Coast Highway to the Santa Monica Place Shopping Center and Santa Monica Pier. Santa Monica City Hall was designed by Donald B. Parkinson & J.M. Estep and built by the Public Works Administration in 1938. This City Hall is a designated historic landmark and tours operate daily, with special focuses on the hand-sculpted tiles and murals; however, the building is still the fully functioning seat of government, hosting the heads of most city departments and many employees. Visitors are a short bus ride away from Santa Monica Pier, the aquarium and convenient options for shopping and dining. For added enjoyment, take the scenic route and walk along Colorado Avenue to the pier's carousel (merry go-round).
