Came here today for a gogobot event! Sad I missed it last year, but super glad they did it this year!
Every Thursday this summer the pier will have live outdoor music until 10pm. People can show up early and claim a spot, picnic and relax. Booze isn't allowed, you ll see a lot of cops walking around during the day.
Bathroom line gets horrendous on the pier so find an alternative bathroom.
Get a big banner or a flag so people can easily find you in the sea of crowd.
There's limited food booth on the pier and beer garden.Recommended for:

Welcome to the pier my frienemies. They have it all here from fun zone rollercoaster and ferris wheel rides to carnival midway games a few restaurants ohhh and occasional summer free concerts!
Don't plan to park here though as parking is a nightmare most of the time. However the fun for tots and elders makes up for it usually.
Pro Tip #1: Pier side parking is $15
The fun zone definitely reminds you of a place like Coney Island or the Newport Beach fun zone on steroids. The rides over the water present a great time for all comers and present an awesome sunset photo op!
Pro Tip#2: If you park at 3rd St Promenade a few blocks away, the first 1.5 hrs is free and the next hour only costs about $2!
The proximity of the pier to 3rd Street Promenade allows for a fantastic date night. You can stroll along the beach, pier, and a million restaurants easily. Just make sure you have flip flops or sandals on so you can cruise through the buttresses under the pier as well as walk down its length on a hot day and avoid any splinters as the pier is mostly made out of wood.
The free concerts during the summer add an extra quality to the location and liven it up with a huge crowd draw. So that can be both good and bad at the same time, just be cognoscente of it when you head down.
Definitely one of the most fun touristy things to check out in So Cal for locals or tourists...Recommended for:

With inexpensive parking nearby, the amusement rides, the fried food and candy, and the endless people watching; the Pier is a great way to spend a day in Southern California. this is a great way to spend a whole day. Enjoy the activities on the pier but don't forget to venture to the town that is filled with wonderful restaurants and shops.

Known as the Western Point of Route 66 - the historic roadway that starts in Chicago, Santa Monica Pier bustles with activities and thrilling rides. Come here for a ride on the Ferris Wheel, a free summer night concert, or to simply enjoy the view of the Pacific.Recommended for:

You HAVE to visit Santa Monica Pier if it's your first time in Santa Monica. The pier has a lot going on from an aquarium to rides and games, "street" performances, a restaurant, souveniers, etc. Just like any LA beach, you have to pay for parking. (This is so crazy to me as it's not like that in Hawaii).
There's also a biker's/runner's path, the pier is great for photo shoots, and the beach is huge and great to just lie around and hang out if you want.

Santa Monica Pier is a gorgeous lookout point. We rode bikes there from Venice Beach and hauled them up onto the pier to stroll around. It was a bit cumbersome, but we had fun. I loved the area, but it's PACKED crowded.Recommended for:

Great place to go with the kids! Weekends are really crowded, but that is when all the good stuff is open, walk all the way to the end of the pier for a really nice view and good seagull photo ops.Recommended for:

Not a bad place to wander around and enjoy the scenery. You can make your way down to the beach or just to the end of the pier if you prefer to stay well above water level. There are some games and rides to enjoy if you're so inclined, as well as booths selling merchandise. But of course you don't have to drop any money here and can just enjoy strolling around taking in the sights.
