No visit to Santa Monica is complete without visiting the Pier. It's extremely touristy - full of vendors and shops selling the standard tourist kitsch. We visited on a bright, sunny day that was extremely windy. It was more fun walking out to the end of the Pier to be buffeted around by the wind than anything else.

Fun place to visit when in LA. You can see the ferris wheel from miles away. During the summer they have concerts on the pier every Thursday night. You can park yourself on the pier in front of the stage or picnic on the beach while listening to the music. The perfect Cali beach experience!

There is a lot to do here, everything you would expect from a carnival/boardwalk but located in one of my favorite cities ever. The most iconic, of course is the ferris wheel, so definitely do that if you're here -- you can get a great view of the whole coastline. You can also hang out on the beach, and walk up from the beach to Ocean Ave & the Third Street Promenade where there are lots of restaurants, shops, street performers and musicians.

Santa Monica Pier has the old boardwalk feel with cheap, touristy shopping and an arcade where you can play various games for prize tickets. There are some restaurants at the end of the pier, and on a good day the sunsets can be quite nice. If you've seen the opening to the 1970s sitcom Three's Company, you'll probably recognize the Pier in it.

A great place to while the afternoon or evening away while people watching. Great views of the sunset. Come watch the surfers or fishermen, or try the trapeze or ride the ferris wheel.

Arcade games, trapeze lines, and souvenir shops are all present on this pier. Then there is the large amusement park rides and the restaurants on the pier. It is a good place to see the ocean and people watch. There are all kinds of characters and tourists walking about.
