Beautiful beach with great "gym playground" that looks better than a lot of real gyms. Rent a bike and go for a ride. It is one of the most iconic beaches in LA because it's been featured in movies so much.

Santa Monica Beach, close to the pier, is wide and long. The beach itself is generally clean, but the water might be a bit gunky. When you get bored of the sand, there's lots to do around there. The last time I was there, Cirque de Soleil was set up in the parking lot (making parking even worse!).

If you have the money and time, just move here and not have to worry about work. There is an iron man gym in the area on the beach so you can work to your heart's content. The pier is nice and so is the sun. Wear some sunscreen and don't get burnt.

While the beach doesn't compare to the beautiful shores of Hawaii or Mexico, Santa Monica Beach is a good beach if you're looking to get some sun and sand in SoCal and are interested in being close to the Santa Monica Fairgrounds which are nearby. I recommend renting bikes and cruising down the coastline. Lots of great people watching. Don't go here if you are looking for a relaxation experience with few crowds.

I'm a regular beach volleyball player here. The sand is here very smooth with very little coarseness to it. There are people doing all kinds of activity here. Biking, jogging, kite flying, rollerblading, and of course volleyball. Free parking can be a little hard to find so be prepared to pay for the lots.
