Love this place just to walk around...high end shops here means I do more window shopping than "spend" shopping haha. On nice days there's lots of people walking around and walking their dogs too.

Santana Row was one of the first newer type shopping malls to emerge in teh Sf Bay Area. By "New". I mean instead of the enclosed dome with the bright flouro lighting and multi level design, a newer concept that would mimic a mini-downtown center, with mixed use shoping, eating, and above that multi-story housing units, with parking in large garages and some on the streets of the center.
This new design is becoming the blueprint for malls across the country, and most poeple prefer them to the older style full of cookie cutter shops and mall rats.
Santana Row almost didn't get completed, when a huge fire broke out halfway through construction and destoryed a large part of the planned complex. But it was completed, right on the sight of the old Town and Country mall, which was an open style low rise style that was popular 40 years ago.
Because of the nearby high-tech salaried demographics, Santana Row has a lot of higher end stores, and this is a destination not only for sophisticated shopping, but also for its many dining establishments, movie theater, night clubs/bars, and even art and entertainment.
Santana Row put a much needed lift to the San Jose scene, and it has attacted throngs ever since its opening.

This is one of the most charming, albeit a little contrived, shopping areas in the Bay Area. There are tons of upscale shops and great dining options, but don't go expecting to find lots of good deals.
