The century's old Virgin Mary that graces this church is known as "Nuestra Senora de La Naval," and is credited by saving the city from a Dutch naval invasion 1646. The original church that housed her in this site was destroyed during World War II, but the Virgin survived, and now a yearly procession dedicated to her is held in her name - and counts among the biggest religious festivals in Manila.
