Sarah P. Duke Gardens

420 Anderson Street, Durham, NC, United States
11 reviews

These gardens are decent enough, although some parts seem to be suffering from neglect. The gardens are free but the parking is run by the Duke Campus and follows the same rules. Buy a parking ticket for $1 per 30 minutes.

Simple, awesome, and locally created popsicles. They even have something for your dog. Fantastic for a hot day, but a nice treat year round.

    Cosmic Cantina

0.67 mi from Sarah P. Duke Gardens
    2 reviews

I have a soft spot in my heart for Cosmic Cantina. It is a hole in the wall kind of place where you walk up an interior graffiti-ed staircase to a not much more polished dining room with an open kitchen where you order and wait for your west coast style burrito. I think the food is better than Moe's, ...

Try the macaroni and cheese. My favorite dish is the quilted buttercup. I like to experiment with different flavored butters, too.

    Guglhupf Bakery & Patisserie

1.91 mi from Sarah P. Duke Gardens
    2 reviews

Hmm ... what do I love more: the breakfast pastries at weekend brunch, or the yummy sandwiches at lunch and dinner? The prices are fantastic, the front patio is generally climate-controlled because of the surrounding walls (cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter), and I always run into friends.

    Bullock's Bar-B-Cue

1.46 mi from Sarah P. Duke Gardens

Get here early or expect to drive around looking for parking then wait in a long line. The BBQ is good but not fantastic, as are the hush puppies and cole slaw. From the pictures on the wall, it looks like anyone who is anyone eats at Bullock's when they come to Durham.

Food was not great and service was worse. Rude and slow - not fun. It was busy but they could have made more of an effort. Won't be back.

Let's say you could finish one of their peanut butter shakes in one sitting (it usually takes me two or three tries per shake). You'd find chunks of real-live pb in the bottom of each cup. In addition to their 38 flavors of ridiculously rich shakes (I esp like the cheesecake flavors with real pieces of cheesecake), the burgers are ...

This Biscuitville has the companywide best biscuit maker. Most of the menu is something—bacon, egg, etc—between a biscuit. The biscuit is good, but more bread-like than flaky.
