Sitting at this old coffee shop was a highlight of my visit to Kuwait -- and to the souq. Established in 1945, this little spot is a covered alleyway between two shops just a few aisles away from the central area. You'll definitely need to ask around to find it but it stands out once you've seen it. Kuwaiti men have been coming here for decades and the alley way has the black and white photos to document the history. Wonderfully atmospheric and friendly. One of the few places where locals really tried to engage us.
We only saw men here. I think it would be very uncomfortable to visit as a woman. The staff don't speak English but you can figure things out. It would really lose its character if it were overwhelmed with tourists.Recommended for:
