A Montreal landmark, now owned by Celine Dion and her husband Rene Angelil. Come and check out why people stand in line starting at 10 a.m. to get a table! Definitely busier during the Summer months and on week-ends but sooooo worth the wait - you have never tasted smoked meat like this! (Note to all the New Yorkers who say it's the same as pastrami - nay nay, not so!!!). Open till 2 a.m. on week ends.

This is a must eat in Montreal! If you like Kat'z in New York, then you will also like this. I actually prefer this over Kat'z. The meat is fattier and much tastier in my opinion. Don't bother line up for the restaurant unless you are dying to sit down. Next door does take away sandwiches, and it MUCH quicker.

Look for the steamed-up windows! This is one of those Montreal legends, but it's so small we nearly walked right by it. And when the waiter asks if you want regular or fatty smoked meat, of course say fatty. Or is it 'lean' vs. 'regular'? At any rate, get the fattier end of the brisket--why not? You're on vacation. (Smoked meat is the name of the game here--like pastrami, but so much better!)

Schwartz's smoked meat are to die for. The flavors are wonderful and the texture is awesome. The 'sandwiches' are really just a huge stack of these lovely smoked meat in between two little slices of rye bread. Any normal sandwich stores would easily make 4-5 sandwiches out of the amount of meat you get here. Really not bad for such an inexpensive sandwich.
Most of the time there is a fairly long line out the door. If you just want to order take out there is separate entrance. The wait is usually a lot shorter.

No matter what time of day you visit Schwartz there is always a line of people waiting to be seated. And for good reason! This place has some of Montreal's best smoked meat sandwiches. These award winning sandwiches are worth the wait, and are so loved by the community that they even created a musical about this place.
When you go inside, it's almost always crowded. Even though it's wall to wall people, there is this eerie silence. That is because everyone is focusing on the deliciousness of the food - getting lost in the complex favors of smokey meat, spicy mustard and sweet, sweet pickles!

If you're in town, this is a place not to be missed. Schwartz's is a Montreal institution. There is always a lineup outside in order to get in... The place to try world-famous Montreal smoked meat sandwiches. Worth waiting in the super long lineup outside...
