This resort was AMAZING!!! You're really getting 2 resorts for the price of 1 because it shares the same property with Wild Orchid. The staff were great and helped you with anything you needed or wanted. There was some great nightlife options with a piano bar, where people could request songs and sing karaoke-style, and a nightclub if you wanted to dance. One of the best things, that we've never experienced at any other resorts, was the 24 hour room service that didn't disturb you because there was a compartment that connected the room to the hallway that the staff put the food in... Steaks at 4am are AWESOME!!!

We recently stayed at Secrets St. James and honestly I can not recommend this resort enough. Our experience - from checking to checkout was top notch. We stayed in the Preferred club, which to me was worth the extra money as it was quiet, when compared to the main pool, and the concierge staff could not do enough for us. The lounge area was not that special but the top shelf labels and daily snacks were nice. Many days we didn't even venture up to the buffet restaurant but just snacked all day on the food in the lounge.
Food - is it the best food in the world? No, but it's far from being bad. The best food was the Teppanyaki table at Himitsu - and just to be clear, you only need to make a reservation here if you want to sit at the table. We went to Himitsu early on and sat outside. Our other favorite restaurant was the Oceana Grill - might not be the favorite of everyone as it's on the WO pool, but for us it was perfect. Nice decor in the seating area and it was very refreshing sitting in the cool air listening to the waves crash. Best advice on food is to stick to the seafood.
For breakfast we only did the buffet once - I think we hit it at the wrong time as it was a scene. The food was good - awesome omelet - but the lines in the kitchen was too much for me and reminded me of my college cafeteria. We ordered room service the rest of the time, which was awesome but keep in mind that breakfast can take a while - one morning we waited 45 minutes, which at the end of the day was not horrible as we had coffee in our room.
Another tip with the restaurants - the Secrets website says that the dress code at all restaurants for men is long pants - not the case. Only Bordeaux (which, honestly you can skip) and Blue Mountain (don't skip this) require pants - if you sit indoors. All restaurants allow shorts if you sit outside.
Nightlife - there seemed to be plenty to do, whether you wanted to do a sing-along in one of the piano bars, or hit the dance club, or take the shuttle to Margeritaville. We did not do any of this - to us, the best of the evening is what's so awesome about this resort - the resort itself. We spent our nights in the area outside the WO piano bar (an awesome place to sit in the moonlight) or on the beach
Beaches - this is where we spent most of our time. Simply put - they're beautiful. Not the largest beaches - some places there is only about 10 feet of beach. The St. James beach has little to no rocks - St. James preferred has a lot of small rocks along the shore but once you're in the water there little or none. We didn't go in the beach on the WO side but it looked like there were some large rocks there.
If you like snorkeling - get a snorkel set (I ordered ours off Amazon for $50). It's more than worth it - there's some good size rocks off the St. James beach with lots of fish. We went snorkeling each morning before breakfast when the sea was calm and had an amazing time.
Pools - we spent our afternoons at the Preferred St. James. the pool was crystal clear and the side closest to the building is heated. Perfect for a lazy float with a beverage of choice. The St James pool was a party - saw more than one headstand shot - but I did see a few other people having a quiet time to themselves
Rooms - our room was amazing. We were on the top floor and had amazing sunset each evening. Room service was great - the room was cleaned each day and turn down service was great each night.
To sum up - this is a beautiful resort. The grounds are kept to an amazing standard and everything is clean. The staff is so friendly - tips are of course appreciated but never asked for. A couple of times I had to stop the server who set up our breakfast before they left without a tip. The resort offers a huge variety of what to do - if you want to party all day at the pool, go for it. You want to sit with your significant other on the beach - yep, can do that as well. Whatever you want - this resort has it.
