The largest city in tiny Gambia, Serekunda is a bustling, colorful place with even more to see and do than neighboring Banjul, the capital. There are great markets, beaches to swim in, forest parks filled with monkeys, and friendly locals (it helps Gambia earn its bumper sticker-esque reputation as "the smiling coast"). Even during Ramadan in the imposing heat and humidity, strangers were still kind and helpful. Definitely worth visiting on any trip to (The) Gambia!
