Serendipity Residence

Viale Castro Pretorio 25, 00185 Rome, Italy

It's an economic b&b very close to Termini station. Reccomend for people who need to move without a car. The hotel is inside a big, old palace with an iron gate. You have to follow the indications for the hall. The rooms are on different floors and also in different parts of the structure. So after the chek in you ...

Peaceful green hills and ruins about as untouched as you'll get in the Caput Mundi. The Palatino is wonderful for strolling, contemplating the origins of Roman culture, and taking in the views from this particular hill out of Rome's famous seven.

Freni e Frizioni is a popular bar overlooking Piazza Trilussa in Trastevere, not to mention its pretty fabulous river views. Popular for its cheap aperitivo (€6 will get you a glass of vino and copious plates of food) and its young, trendy hippy crowd, it's a great place to hang out on a summer's evening.

Rome is full of churches like San Luigi, which in any other city would be a main attraction, but here are almost afterthoughts. At San Luigi dei Francesi, the afterthoughts are pristine Caravaggio paintings.

    Chiostro del Bramante

Via Arco della Pace 5, 00186 Rome, Italy
    1.84 mi from Serendipity Residence
    7 reviews

I love the particular mix of history and contemporary Roman life which the Chiostro del Bramante demonstrates. The building is a design of Bramante, as such, an important historical edifice, and is brought alive with contemporary exhibitions and performances. It's this way of making Rome's heritage contemporary and vibrant that represents the city at its best.

In the San Giovanni neighborhood, this is a wonderful place to hear jazz in the summer. You sit under the beautifully lit pines and listen to great or only good music while having dinner or does get packed, but with good reason. It was definitely one of my favorite places when I lived in Rome.

I lived in Garbatella for about 2 years, and absolutely loved it. The houses are 1930s constructions which are super quaint and have a very village-y feel. There are a few amazing trattorie which are just so Roman they become almost caricatures. It's quiet and residential, but beautiful and quirky.

Another day, another mind-blowingly majestic piece of architecture. That's how Rome rolls. Sant'Andrea della Valle sits squarely on the busy Corso Vittorio, facing down the traffic with its baroque facade. If you're feeling operatic, imagine yourself in the first act of Puccini's Tosca, which is set here.

Any trip to Rome is not complete without a trip up the Gianicolo hill. You can head up from Trastevere or near the Vatican for one of the best views of the city. Pigneto is Rome's up and coming artsy district...think Soho in the 1980s. Lots of artists and general hippies, creative restaurants, and even some industrial buildings. If you've done done done all the tourist things, Pigneto is the place to be.

If you want it, you can probably find it for a low price along the market at Via Sannio. Every day, vendors selling clothing to Tibetan relics set up shop along this street right off the San Giovanni Metro stop. Many items are of high quality, pushed out of stores for whatever reason. I picked up a hot pair of ...

Alimentari Tigre isn't my favorite spot for groceries in this area, but it's usually not crowded and it's convenient. The place feels a bit old, but everything's laid out fairly intuitively. Prices are reasonable and the staff are mostly friendly.
