    Nice place in general.
And the venue for celebrating Norway's national day 17. May, constitution day from 1814.

This thing is cool. It's a leftover artifact from a time gone by, but if you like history, it's a great little visit to take while in the area.

Meaning "meeting-place", this island reserve is populated with friendly wildlife and features an open-air museum of wooden Finnish architecture and a nudist beach.

We toured this museum without a formal tour...This is not our recommended approach. Sign up for the one hour tour for a better appreciation of this open-air museum. Tours are offered from mid-June through mid-August, ( in English at 3PM). The museum includes over 85 buildings from every province in Finland, highlighting every day life in the 18th through 20th centuries. Seurasaari is a short distance from the center of Helsinki. We probably would have appreciated this more had we not just visited two outstanding open-air museums in Sweden and Norway.

This is a small island near the center of town, easily reached by a bus that has a small open-air museum similar to Skansen. Although significantly smaller than Skansen, it seems more intimate and the docents are more likely to answer your questions. If you want to see the old Finnish building but don't want to go inside them, you don't have to pay the entry fee which only applies to going in the buildings. The open-air museum is just a fraction of the island. The rest is full of lovely hiking trails and vistas out onto the water. A great day out walking in nature.
