Greens Restaurant

Greens is one of the best vegetarian restaurants around, anywhere. And here in Fort Mason you get great views of the Bay, and top-notch service. It's the place to go for brunch with the gal pals, a special birthday, or heck anytime. They also have Greens to Go, where you can pick up a veggie sandwich to...

Pier 39

I can hang out here for hours watching the sea lions. You meet people from all over the world, and everyone is in a good mood and relaxed, just hanging back and watching these great animals. One time I watched a seagull "playing" with a tennis ball on one of the rafts. I think it was trying to crack it open....

Aquarium of the Bay

I love aquariums, and even I was at first skeptical of this one. But walking through the tunnel tank, over 300 feet of underwater tunnels where you can see the fish of the bay and Pacific, well it was fantastic. You're the star of your own special effects underwater movie. I loved the monkey-faced eel....

An elegant restaurant with lovely old-style decor and superb food. I've only eaten lunch here, which is truly a great dining experience and a bit more affordable.

Ferry Building Marketplace

Stop in on your walk along San Francisco's Embarcadero. Everything you do (or don't) need is here, being sold by boutique vendors. Chocolates, olive oil, lard (!), designer ceramic ware, hats, kitchen gear, books, and lots of good food and coffee. And ice cream, and candy, and fruit, and mushrooms....

Waterbar serves fresh sustainable seafood in a comfortable, yet very special place. I recommend the $1 oyster happy hour from 11:30 to 6:00 pm everyday. Walk the Embarcadero and stop in for $1 oysters! Wow. You can sit outside with a view of the bay, or cozy up inside and watch the fish in their vertical...

Full on hands-on science fun. It is noisy! In it's new location you get wonderful bay views and it's easy to walk to from the Embarcadero, or take a trolley.

Blue Bottle Coffee - Ferry Building

Great coffee. That's all I need to say.

Ferry Plaza Farmers Market

I always want to buy something here, but then, I usually come via BART and can't really take home all the tasty looking fruits and vegetables. But I could have a lunch of a fresh tamale, or maybe a falafel sandwich.
